The optical beam has an elliptically shaped beam spot on the screen in which a major axis of the beam spot is substantially perpendicular to a scanning direction. A horizontal spot size of the optical beam on an exit surface of the optical element is at least or equal to a horizontal spot size of the optical beam on the screen, and the horizontal spot size of the optical beam on the screen is no greater than a horizontal pixel pitch displayed on the screen.

    摘要: The present invention provides a technique relating to a PDP and capable of canceling or reducing luminance unevenness due to voltage drop or the like. In a structure of the PDP, for example, two types of cells different in discharge timing are arranged in a zigzag manner on a screen. For example, the two types of cells have different discharge gap lengths because of a difference in areas and lengths of projections of electrodes of the respective cells. By the dispersion of discharge timings of cells, the voltage drop or the like is reduced. The design characteristic obtained by the arrangement pattern is superimposed on panel manufacture characteristic, whereby luminance unevenness is cancelled or reduced in display characteristic.

    摘要: Disclosed is an optical unit for an image display device, the unit including: one or a plurality of light sources; one or a plurality of optical elements that control a spread of light; a combining element that combines the beams of light emitted from the light sources; and a scanning element, wherein the light from each of the light sources generates an elliptical beam spot on a screen and the spot has a major axis substantially perpendicular to a scanning direction, the result is that the unit is simple in structure, inexpensive, compact, lightweight, and capable of providing high-resolution image quality, thus providing the display device reduced dimensionally and in weight. Such an image display device using the optical unit is also disclosed.

Plural partitions being at a distance from each other define a discharge space of each column in the screen. A pair of plural main electrodes is provided for surface discharge. Each of the main electrodes includes a belt-like bus portion extending in the row direction of the screen and plural gap forming portions protruding in the column direction from the bus portion toward the enlarging portion in each column space.
