Abstract: A hollow rod developable actuator tool including a first link comprising an outer cylinder, a second link comprising a first tool member pivotably connected to the first link at a first joint mounted in a first cavity in the wall of the outer cylinder, a third link comprising a second tool member pivotably connected to the first tool member at a second link, and a fourth link comprising an inner cylinder to which the second tool member is also pivotably connected at a third link mounted in a second cavity in the wall of the inner cylinder. When the inner cylinder of the fourth link is rotated in relation to the outer cylinder of the first link the actuator tool transitions from a first state where the tool is closed to a second state where the tool is open.

Abstract: The embodiments disclosed herein are directed towards vacuum-assisted toilet systems and methods of using the vacuum-assisted toilet systems. An example vacuum-assisted toilet system includes a toilet bowl defining an outlet and a flush valve fluidly coupled to the outlet. The vacuum-assisted toilet system also includes at least one water source fluidly coupled to the toilet bowl. The water source is configured to supply water to the toilet bowl. The vacuum-assisted toilet system also includes at least one water actuator coupled to the water source. The water actuator is configured to control the amount of water that is supplied by the water source to the toilet bowl. The vacuum-assisted toilet system also includes a controller that is configured to at least partially control the operation of one or more components of the vacuum-assisted toilet system, such as at least one of the flush valve or the water actuator.

Abstract: Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2B (LGMD2B) is caused by mutations in the dysferlin gene, resulting in non-functional dysferlin, a key protein found in muscle membrane. Treatment options available for patients are chiefly palliative in nature and focus on maintaining ambulation. A method of treating LGMD2B is disclosed herein. The method includes administering to a patient a suitable amount of a galectin protein or fragment thereof. Treatment with a recombinant galectin promoted myogenic maturation as indicated through improvements in size, myotube alignment, myoblast migration, and membrane repair capacity in dysferlin-deficient myotubes, explant myofibers and mice.

Abstract: Kits for use in treating or preventing an infection caused by a primary bacterium or for use in reducing or preventing overpopulation of the primary bacterium can include a bystander bacterium having a genomically-encoded bacteriotoxin specific for at least the primary bacterium and a first bacteriophage tropic for the bystander bacterium. The bystander bacterium can be provided as a live culture and infection of the bystander bacterium by the first bacteriophage causes expression of the genomically-encoded bacteriotoxin. Methods of treating or preventing an infection caused by a primary bacterium or for reducing or preventing overpopulation of the primary bacterium can include administering a bacteriophage tropic for a bystander bacterium that has a genomically-encoded bacteriotoxin that is expressed upon infection by the first bacteriophage and is specific for at least the primary bacterium.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for providing a charge detector that utilizes small feedback capacitors in a low-noise, high-gain, system that combines a differential topology in a solid-state amplifier implemented in a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process with active reset, thereby achieving high dynamic range and robust operations. A custom optoelectronic system is used to measure gain, and while operating at a sampling frequency of 10 kHz, the active reset extends the dynamic range of the charge detector.

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to solar tracking apparatuses, systems that include the same, and methods of operating the same. An example solar tracking apparatus includes a structure attachment portion configured to be attached to a structure (e.g., a moveable or stationary structure) and to remain relatively stationary relative to the structure. The structure attachment portion may include one or more mounts configured to attach the structure attachment portion to the structure. The solar tracking apparatus also includes at least one solar panel portion coupled to the structure attachment portion. The solar panel portion may be configured to move relative to the structure attachment portion and the structure. For example, the solar tracking apparatus may include one or more actuators coupled to solar panel portion configured to move at least a portion of the solar panel portion relative to the structure attachment portion.
