Abstract: An apparatus and method for delivering a spatially enhanced live streaming experience for virtual reality or 360 degree live streaming of video is disclosed. A live streaming video signal is encoded into multiple streams at varying resolutions. A portion of the high resolution video stream, corresponding to a field of view within the entire 360 degree view, is merged with a low resolution video stream. The resulting video stream is referred to as a spatial adaptive video stream. Multiple spatial adaptive video streams are generated to provide a high resolution field of view across the entire 360 degrees. As the viewer looks in different directions, the video player plays back one of the spatial adaptive video streams according to the direction in which the viewer is looking.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for sourcing nuclear fusion products uses an electrochemical loading process to load low-kinetic-energy (low-k) light element particles into a target electrode, which comprises a light-element-absorbing material (e.g., Palladium). An electrolyte solution containing the low-k light element particles is maintained in contact with a backside surface of the target electrode while a bias voltage is applied between the target electrode and an electrochemical anode, thereby causing low-k light element particles to diffuse from the backside surface to an opposing frontside surface of the target electrode. High-kinetic-energy (high-k) light element particles are directed against the frontside, thereby causing fusion reactions each time a high-k light element particle operably collides with a low-k light element particle disposed on the frontside surface. Fusion reaction rates are controlled by adjusting the bias voltage.

Abstract: The various implementations described herein include methods, devices, and systems for illuminating and capturing scenes. In one aspect, a video camera assembly includes: (1) one or more processors configured to operate the video camera assembly in a day mode and in a night mode; (2) an image sensor having a field of view of a scene and configured to capture video of a first portion of the scene while in the day mode of operation and in the night mode of operation, the first portion corresponding to the field of view of the image sensor; (3) one or more infrared (IR) illuminators configured to provide illumination during the night mode of operation while the image sensor captures video; and (4) an IR reflector component configured to: (i) substantially restrict the illumination onto the first portion of the scene, and (ii) illuminate the first portion in a substantially uniform manner across the field of view of the image sensor.

Abstract: Described herein is a method for managing media item playback. A method includes presenting a media player in a first portion of a user interface (UI) on a mobile device, the media player to provide playback of a first media item. The method also includes receiving a user selection of a second media item via a second portion of the UI. The user selection indicates a user request to move the second media item from the second portion of the UI to the first portion of the UI. The method further includes upon receiving the user selection, causing the media player to provide playback of the second media item when playback of the first media item is complete. The method includes receiving, via a second portion of the UI, a user request to perform an activity that is independent of the viewing of the first media item or the second media item. The method further includes presenting content associated with the requested activity while continuing to provide playback of either the first media item or the second media item in the media player of the first portion of the UI.

Abstract: The serving of content with (e.g., on) video documents may be improved in a number of ways. For example, a system may accept information defining at least one ad spot associated with at least one instance of an video document, accept offers to have ads served in the ad spot(s), and arbitrate among competing ads, using at least the offers, to determine at least one ad to be served in that ad spot(s). As another example, a system may accept relevance information for an ad, determine at least one video document using the accepted relevance information, present information about the video document(s) to an ad provider associated with the ad, and accept, from the ad provider, an offer to have its ad served with at least one of the video document(s) accepted. As yet another example, a system may accept relevance information for an video document, determine a plurality of ads relevant to the video document using the relevance information and serving constraints of the ads, and select at least one of the determined relevant ads to be served with the video document. Examples of video documents include video files published on the Internet, television programs, live or recorded talk shows, video-voice mail, segments of a video conversation, etc.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides image capture devices and associated methods that feature intelligent use of hardware-generated statistics. An example image capture device can include an imaging hardware pipeline that generates frames of imagery. The imaging hardware pipeline can generate one or more hardware-generated statistics based at least in part on, for example, the raw image data captured by the image sensor or intermediate image data within the pipeline. The image capture device can analyze the hardware-generated statistics to determine one or more metrics for the raw image data or the image. The image capture device can determine a downstream operation of the image capture device relative to the image based at least in part on the metrics determined from the hardware generated statistics.

Abstract: A query is received from a user via a user device. A geographic area and a category of business for the query are identified. Using reviews related to the geographic area and the category of business from a plurality of users, candidate experts are selected from among the users. For each of the candidate experts, a respective agreement score is determined based on differences between reviews of businesses reviewed by the user and the candidate expert. Personalized experts are selected from among the candidate experts in view of the determined agreement scores. Local search results responsive to the query are ranked using reviews of the local search results by the personalized experts, and the ranked local search are displayed via a user device.
