摘要:
A method described includes positioning an x-ray emitter at a treatment area, where the x-ray emitter is connected to a cable, setting a voltage source at a source voltage, and measuring a current through the x-ray emitter. The method may include comparing a current flowing through the emitter with a high limit and a low limit. The method further includes increasing the source voltage if the current is lower than the low limit. The method further includes decreasing the source voltage if the current is higher than the high limit. The method includes determining the high limit and the low limit based on the source voltage and the desired radiation. An apparatus of the invention includes an x-ray emitter, positionable in the passage, a cable connected to the x-ray emitter, a voltage source connected to the cable, and a current sensor for measuring the current. The apparatus may include a current comparison device for comparing the measured current with a high limit and a low limit, and further include a voltage source control device operatively connected to the current comparison device. A current integrator for integrating a current from the x-ray emitter may also be included.

A cathode structure comprising a getter material provided with a diamond film. The getter material may include zirconium, vanadium and iron. Cathode structures may have a substantially rounded configuration including a substantially straight portion. Other cathode structures may have a substantially flat portion, with the diamond film covering essentially the entire flat surface. Methods of manufacturing cathode structures may include conditioning the cathode structure by applying a voltage.

A balloon protector for the balloon of a dilatation catheter includes a distally extending flared section that defines a funnel receptive to a guidewire in order to facilitate backloading of the guidewire into the catheter.

The invention relates to a catheter device and a method of use to enable catheter exchange over a conventional length guidewire without the use of a guidewire extension or exchange wire. The catheter device includes an elongated inflation shaft having a longitudinal inflation lumen, an extension shaft having a longitudinal extension lumen coupled in fluid communication with the inflation lumen, a balloon member disposed at the distal end of the extension shaft and in fluid communication with the inflation lumen, a guidewire shaft having a longitudinal guidewire lumen which extends from the distal end of the balloon member, through the balloon member and extension shaft, to the proximal end of the extension shaft, and a variable length shaft coupled to the proximal end of the extension shaft. The variable length shaft comprises an elastomeric material which may be stretched from a relaxed state of about 10 centimeters to a fully extended state of about 140 centimeters.

An expandable braid device attached to a guidewire acts to both house radiation and to expose a stenosis site to such radiation as a function of the braid's collapsed or deployed configuration. The expandable braid device, in a closed configuration, shields a radioactive inner core of the braid as it is advanced to and located at a stenosis site and, in an expanded configuration, exposes the radioactive inner core to the stenosis site in order to irradiate such site.

The present invention is a device for delivering a self-expanding stent. The device has an inner shaft and an outer shaft moveable with respect to the inner shaft. The self expanding stent is received on the inner shaft adjacent its distal end. A tapered tip is located on the inner shaft distal end and it forms a smooth transition from the delivery device to the guide wire extending therethrough. A handle allows the practitioner to deploy the stent single handedly. The stent may have its segments in a first radial configuration for deliver of the stent or the stent may have a plurality of segments in a first radial configuration and a plurality of second segments in a second radial position.

A sheath catheter includes a positioning wire fixedly attached at its distal end to a distal tube. A proximal tube is slidably disposed on the positioning wire proximal of the distal tube and sized so that the distal tube may be nested therein. In one embodiment, a series of coordinating stops are fixed on the tubes so that the distal tube can slide back and forth within the proximal tube but cannot be extracted from the proximal tube. As such, the over-the-wire length of the catheter can be varied. In another embodiment, an additional telescoping portion can be added between the distal tube and the proximal tube for greater control over the length of the sheath catheter. In this embodiment, the tubes are sized so that the middle tube may be nested within the proximal tube and the distal tube may be nested in the middle tube.

An irritant or polymer is dispensed to the inner surface area of an aneurysm to exert a contractile force on the inner surface area of the aneurysm, thereby shrinking the aneurysm. As a result, the artery wall at the aneurysm site is strengthened, the risk of rupture is decreased, and at least a partial cure for the expansion of the arterial wall at the aneurysm site is provided.

A catheter to be used without a guidewire which includes a support wire shaft formed of metal, a balloon mounted on a distal portion of the catheter, and an inflation shaft for inflating the balloon, wherein a core wire may be interchangeably inserted into the support wire shaft when the catheter is within a human body to change the stiffness and improve control thereof. In one embodiment, the portion of the support wire shaft that extends just proximal of, through and distal of the balloon is formed entirely of a metal wound coil. The flexibility characteristics of this support wire shaft can be controlled by varying the pitch of the wound coil and the thickness of the wire or ribbon it is made from. An overjacket is also provided on the metal wound coil portion to hold pressure within the inflation lumen and provide a suitable material for bonding a distal end of the balloon to the support wire shaft.

A balloon stent assembly system and method for retaining the stent on the same. The system includes a balloon including an outer layer portion; and a stent including a mesh portion disposed on the balloon, the mesh portion covering at least 55 percent of the outer layer portion. The outer layer portion flows into gaps formed in the stent when the balloon stent assembly is heated to a predetermined temperature, and retains the stent on the balloon during intravascular movement. The method of retaining a stent on a balloon includes: mounting the stent onto the balloon, sheathing the mounted stent and balloon, heating the balloon, and flowing an outer layer of the balloon into the gaps formed in the stent while an inner layer of the balloon does not flow.
