摘要: The invention relates to a multiple pot comprising individual pots interconnected by connector portions so as to be capable of being pulled out. The multiple pot is used to raise and transplant seedlings of plants. The invention also relates to a method of fabricating the pot. The pot is designed especially to promote growth of roots across the side walls of the individual pots after transplantation. Also, the resistance encountered when the multiple pot is unfolded is reduced. Further, the individual pots are uniform in size. These feature arise from the facts that the connector portions are formed by applying a waterproof paste discontinuously and that a water-soluble paste is not applied around the edges of the individual pots created when the multiple pot is unfolded. Hence, a coating of the paste is formed in none of these portions. The multiple pot is fabricated by continuously carrying out three steps. At the first step, the waterproof paste is applied in a given pattern while continuously pulling out two continuous thin films. At the second step, folds are formed in the resulting belt, and the belt is folded in a zigzag fashion. This state is maintained. At the third step, the water-soluble paste is applied to the front side and the rear side of the belt alternately up to each fold. Then, the belt is folded, and pressure is applied to it to stick together the folded belts.

摘要: A machine for cutting coarse sod into relatively small plugs for ready packaging and subsequent transplanting, comprising an endless conveyor belt upon which comparatively large rectangular sections of sod can be deposited, so that the sections of sod can be moved intermittently toward a sod cutting device. The sod cutting device preferably is of the single pass cutter type, utilizing a plurality of elongate, closely grouped blades designed to periodically move in unison downwardly into contact with sod to be cut, with such downward cutting movements being immediately followed by an upward movement, thus to permit an advance of the section of sod without interference. I coordinate the movements of the sod cutting device with the belt advance, such that forward movement of a section of sod is in each instance prevented until the cutting blades are clear of the section of sod being cut. Advantageously, the closely grouped blades are arrayed in an open configuration, such that each time the sharpened lower edges of the blades contact a piece of sod during a cutting movement, a plurality of sod "circlets" are created. Because the blades are not arrayed in the configuration of a complete hexagon or rectangle, no internal stripper need be used to eject sod pieces so that said blades will be kept clear thereof. Also, because the elongate edges of the blades are secured tightly together, a blade array having high columnar strength is created.

摘要: A cultivation ball is formed from at least one envelope, which is sealed or substantially sealed, containing the cultivation substrate; the plant is disposed in the ball, being separated from the substrate by at least one wall of the envelope or envelopes, and each envelope is made from a material through which the roots of the plant can pass once the ball has been set to grow. The substrate-containing envelope can be produced industrially at high rates of production, and is easily applied to the plant.

摘要: A nursery container that provides an improved root structure for plants intended to be transplanted into the ground. This container is characterized by a base that is constructed to direct initial root growth towards an elevated opening that is centrally located in the base. It is through this opening where initial root growth is air pruned thus encouraging the early development of secondary lateral roots. The base design also serves to aerate the growing medium in the center of the container thus aiding in the reduction of medium compacting and drainage. This container is also characterized by a plurality of vertical indentations that protrude towards the periphery of the container, each one being open at the bottom. Because of these indentations the root tips are encouraged to grow down towards the openings for air pruning thus continuing the development of lateral roots. The indentations also serve to aerate the growing medium in the sidewall area. Furthermore this improved nursery container is designed to compensate for material thinning which is a characteristic of all thermoformed products and is designed with a unique container stacking feature that eliminates containers that can be telescoped together. It also compensates for the limitations placed on nursery container design by the production method of blowmolding plastic containers.

摘要: In the production of growth blocks of sphagnum there are considerable operational problems with the required compacting of the loose sphagnum, as both compaction worms and pistons may easily get stuck. Instead, the invention provides for the use of a suction technique, whereby the loose sphagnum (2) is sucked into a perforated pipe (34) in a suction chamber (28), whereby a marked compaction of the material is achievable without any use of mechanical devices. The compacted block material may be surrounded by a decomposable paper casing, which is laid in successively as a lining hose of air permeable paper. The compacted material can be delivered as a compact string (46) by successive projection movements of the suction chamber (28) for being cut into blocks (56), and the suction chamber can temporarily opened for free return movements into its initial position.
