Abstract: Methods for producing highly spherical particles that comprise: mixing a mixture comprising: (a) nanoclay-filled-polymer composite comprising a nanoclay dispersed in a thermoplastic polymer, (b) a carrier fluid that is immiscible with the thermoplastic polymer of the nanoclay-filled-polymer composite, optionally (c) a thermoplastic polymer not filled with a nanoclay, and optionally (d) an emulsion stabilizer at a temperature at or greater than a melting point or softening temperature of the thermoplastic polymer of the nanoclay-filled-polymer and the thermoplastic polymer, when included, to disperse the nanoclay-filled-polymer composite in the carrier fluid; cooling the mixture to below the melting point or softening temperature to form nanoclay-filled-polymer particles; and separating the nanoclay-filled-polymer particles from the carrier fluid.

Abstract: An apparatus, system and method are provided for launching, deploying and moving mobility platforms used to produce a three-dimensional product using additive printing. The product, or object, is made by collecting materials in-situ at an off-Earth celestial body. A sintering apparatus, such as a laser, is used to consolidate the planetary regrowth into a solid object. The apparatus can receive power, and can apply heat to assist in the consolidation process. The apparatus is moveable to the build site, and includes a print head having a collector for receiving collected materials, a conditioner for sintering and heating the collected materials, and an extruder, specifically a slip form opening in which the materials can be dispersed over the surface of the extraterrestrial body where the powder form of the conditioned materials are sintered, fused, or consolidated into a hard solid bead of material.

Abstract: A method of printing a 3D printing a photopolymer composite material includes providing a resin premix material including an acrylate monomer or an acrylate oligomer, an inorganic hydrate, a reinforcing filler, a co-initiator, and an ultraviolet (UV) initiator. A thermal initiator is mixed with the resin premix to form a photopolymer composite resin. The photopolymer composite resin is repeatedly extruded and dual-cured by a 3D printing system to create a photopolymer composite material. The 3D printing system includes a control system, a mixing system, a feeding system in fluid communication with the mixing system, a light curing module controlled by the control system, and a printing head controlled by the control system.

Abstract: SLA-based additive manufacturing using radiation-curable foams enables the production by 3D printing of lightweight parts having desirable physical and functional attributes. A representative method of manufacturing such items includes processing a radiation-curable resin in liquid form to produce a stable, non-aqueous radiation-curable foam, on-demand deposition of the foam at a build layer of a build surface within a 3D printer, and then curing the non-aqueous radiation-curable foam to produce a layer of a 3D build item. Processing the resin typically includes agitation, mixing, shaking, gas injection, ultrasonic stimulation, or combinations thereof. 3D articles of manufacture made by the above-described manufacturing process are also provided.

Abstract: A mixing device serves for producing a powder mixture of a first powder component and at least one second powder component for an additive manufacturing device. Abstract: A plasticizing device includes a driving motor, a rotor rotated around a rotation axis by the driving motor and having a groove forming surface on which a groove is formed, a barrel having an opposed surface opposed to the groove forming surface, a communication hole into which a plasticized material flows being provided in the barrel, a housing section housing the rotor, a first restricting section fixed to the rotor and having a first contact surface facing the barrel side, and a second restricting section fixed to the housing section, opposed to the first contact surface, and having a second contact surface contactable with the first contact surface. Movement of the rotor along the rotation axis is restricted by the first restricting section and the second restricting section. The groove forming surface is separated from the opposed surface at a predetermined interval in a state in which the first contact surface and the second contact surface are in contact.

Abstract: Illustrative examples of forming and using suitably adapted material in an additive manufacturing process includes operations of: exposing a first polymer sheet to a first plasma, such that an amine-functionalized sheet surface is formed; exposing a second polymer sheet to a second plasma, such that an epoxide-functionalized sheet surface is formed; and combining the amine-functionalized sheet and the epoxide-functionalized sheet, such that the amine-functionalized sheet surface contacts the epoxide-functionalized sheet surface. The workpiece is subsequently heated to form a structure, where heating of the workpiece causes covalent chemical bonds to form between the plasma-treated first polymer sheet and the plasma-treaded second polymer sheet.
