    摘要: A method for making an ultra-high weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) medical implant starts with obtaining a preform consolidated from UHMWPE resin. Thereafter the preform is hot isostaticly pressed at a temperature between 150° C. and 190° C. at a pressure up to 30,000 psi. After the hot isostatic pressing the preform is sequentially irradiated in a solid state at a total radiation dose of 2 to 10 MRad. The irradiated UHMWPE preform is then heated to a temperature of about 110° C. to about 190° C. for between 2 to 10 hours. The irradiated and heated preform is then cooled after each irradiation and heating to at or below 50° C., and thereafter a medical implant is formed from the preform. Alternately, the process can be performed on the medical implant itself.

    摘要: A cooling apparatus includes a conveying means which conveys a resin composition formed into a sheet shape along a direction parallel to a surface of the sheet-shaped resin composition and a cooling means which cools the resin composition being conveyed by the conveying means. A temperature of the resin composition just before being cooled by the cooling means is in the range of 40 to 60° C. and the cooling means has a cooling ability to cool the resin composition such that a cooling rate of the resin composition is in the range of 0.2 to 5° C./min. Further, the cooling means includes a fan section having at least one outlet port which discharges cooling air of which temperature is in the range of −40 to 0° C. to the resin composition.

    摘要: A melt cooler and valving system for an underwater pelletizer has a diverter valve that facilitates multiple modes of melt processing. The cooler has a cooler inlet line that conveys the melt to the cooler, and a cooler outlet line that conveys the cooled melt from the cooler. The diverter valve is configured to convey the melt to and from the cooler during a cooling mode of operation, to convey the melt around the cooler during a bypass mode of operation, and to drain the melt from the cooler and the diverter valve during a drain mode of operation. The diverter valve is compact and therefore contains a minimum of product inventory. The valve is streamlined and direct in its bypass mode, and includes a drain capability to allow for faster, easier cleaning of the process line, which in turn provides a fast changeover time with less lost product.
