Abstract:
A box-erecting machine is provided which comprises a frame (1) including an arrangement for receiving a stack of box blanks (17), and an arm (5) provided with suction cups (15) which can be pressed against the leading wall (16) of the forwardmost blank. The machine provides for moving the arm (5) in a horizontal direction and at right angles to the leading wall (16) of the blank (17), and for thereafter rotating the arm (5) with respect to the erected box, as well as for bringing the arm (5) back to its starting position. A roller (33) is provided at one end of a carrying arm (34), the other end of which is pivotably connected to a guide member (36) so to provide support for the box during erecting thereof.
Abstract:
A pair of specially designed suction wheels are preferably placed after the glue applicator on a known pinch bottomer bag-making machine. During manufacture, paper bags are guided horizontally through the machine by a conveyor forming part of the machine. With this arrangement, one of the suction wheels is placed under the bag, and the other wheel is placed over the bag in line. As each bag is moved by the conveyor, both suction wheels are brought into motion like a rolling operation. Each wheel has a shaft with a hollow channel going to a suction cup at the periphery of the wheel. The number of suction cups around the circumference of the wheel could be any amount. In a preferred embodiment, there are 12 equally spaced suction cups. A vacuum pump with a hose is connected onto the shaft. The pump draws air through the channel which comes from a suction cup so that, when the bag comes into the vicinity of the suction cup, the cup sticks on the bag layer. Because the bag is moving, the suction cup travels with the bag in the same direction. This action takes place simultaneously with both wheels. By doing so, the two layers of the bag cling to the suction cups. By making a radius, up and down, the bag opens.
Abstract:
An apparatus for opening folded boxes and delivering the opened boxes to a conveyor device of a cartoning machine including a supply magazine and a delivery device equipped with a suction gripper. In order that the flat-folded boxes will be reliably opened, the apparatus has a holding device with a suction gripper for exerting counter-action during the initial part of the opening operation. The flat-folded boxes are delivered to the holding device by means of a transfer device, suction grippers on the transfer device are moved back and forth on an arc-like path the end portions of which extend substantially perpendicular to the holding plane of the holding device and to the removal side of the magazine. In the initial portion of its return path, the suction gripper of the transfer device still holds the folding box firmly, so that the folding box already opens partially at that time.
Abstract:
Case erector and bottom sealer apparatus having a pick up assembly for grippingly engaging a flat folded case blank on the top of a plurality of case blanks in vertical stacked relationship and elevating and moving the picked up blank forwardly, an infeed conveyor assembly for receiving the picked up case blank in its forward position and moving it to an erector station, an erector assembly at the erector station for grippingly engaging opposite sides of the blank and opening the case blank, folder assemblies movable between retracted and folded positions for first folding the bottom minor flaps of the erected blank and then partially folding the bottom major flaps to retain the bottom minor flaps in a folded condition, a walking stick assembly for moving the erected case from the erector station to a compression station, a glue gun assembly for applying adhesive to the bottom minor flaps as the erected case is moved to the compression station, a compression assembly at the compression station to complete the folding of the bottom major flaps and compress the folded bottom major and minor flaps to complete the formation of the sealed case bottom closure, and controls for controlling the operation of the above mentioned assemblies.
Abstract:
An apparatus for opening and folding the end of a flattened tubular sheet to define the rectangular base of a bag or sack to be made from the sheet comprises a table having a slot through which the flattened sheet projects, the projection being formed into a bag base by suckers locating the projection in a pre-opened condition and grippers which engage opposed margins of the projection, one of the grippers being fixed and the other being secured to a pivotable arm.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for erecting a rectangular carton from a flat blank. The apparatus features:a pair of parallel guide rails, one of which is elevated above the other;a hopper, located at one end of the guide rails, for holding a stack of blanks between the guide rails, so that the bottom blank of the stack is on the guide rails and is upwardly inclined in the cross-direction of the guide rails with the foldably connected edges of its side panels extending in a direction parallel to the guide rails; anda pair of suction cups that are located adjacent the other end of the guide rails and that can fold an upwardly inclined blank on the guide rails; the suctions cups being adapted to hold by suction two adjacent side panels of the blank, that are contiguous to the lower guide rail and on vertically opposite sides of the blank, and to rotate in opposite directions about the lower guide rail until the suction cups are 90.degree. apart, so that the two adjacent side panels are folded 90.degree. apart about the lower guide rail and thereby the blank is folded into a rectangular tube.
Abstract:
An apparatus for setting up folded cartons in which a frame has a folded carton magazine attached thereto adjacent a carton conveyor. A carton set-up station is mounted at one end of the conveyor adjacent the magazine, and the bottom carton in the magazine is grasped by suction cups and moved to the set-up station. The carton is set-up in the set-up station and fed to the conveyor as the minor flaps are folded, glued, and the major flaps folded, and finally, the major and minor flaps compressed for the glue to dry and the carton discharged.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for printing onto and erecting a box. A feeder holds knockdowns, which are transported to a printer in a substantially vertical position and printed upon. An upper knockdown kickout guide and a lower knockdown kickout move the knockdown into a diagonal position and impel it forward such that the knockdown is momentarily airborne. A roller or rollers facilitate the entry of the printed knockdown into a hopper by minimizing horizontal friction encountered by the printed knockdown. The printed knockdowns are transported from the hopper to an erector, where they are erected into completed boxes.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for attaching a fitment to a container and for disinfecting the container prior to sealing either end of the container. The fitment is attached to the container in a novel apparatus and then the container is fed into an existing form, fill and seal machine. The apparatus also disinfects the containers while their top and bottom flaps are open to achieve better results than existing disinfecting techniques. A method of attaching a spout to a container and a method of sterilizing a container also are disclosed.
Abstract:
A forming machine including a load and feed chute for a set of die-cut cardboard pieces folded in a flat shape and laid on the chute perpendicular to the chute plane and parallel one after another, from which die-cut cardboard pieces are picked one by one and partially opened by a set of depression suckers that moves in a horizontal direction between a first position near the exit of the chute and suitable for the engagement of the suckers with one of the two coplanar adjacent sides of the nearest die-cut cardboard and a second position suitable for moving the engaged side of the sucker away from the opposite side of the die-cut cardboard with simultaneous rotation of the other two sides of the die-cut cardboard. The machine provides for squaring elements to complete and to square the partially open die-cut cardboard. A first flap closing device forms the closing fold of first bottom flaps connected with the other two sides of the die-cut cardboard and a second flap closing device forms the closing fold of second bottom flaps connected with the side engaged by the suckers and the opposite side of the die-cut cardboard.
