摘要: A process for the in-line preparation of gelatin solutions comprising(a) mixing gelatin particles with an aqueous solution to wet the gelatin forming a gelatin-aqueous solution mixture,(b) heating rapidly said mixture to a temperature capable of digesting gelatin in said mixture, and(c) maintaining the digested gelatin at said temperature for a period to dissolve the gelatin particles into the aqueous solution. The process provides gelatin solutions for photographic uses in an improved manner without the general dissolution problems. The process is quick and is accomplished in-line, preferably continuously.

摘要: In a photothermographic silver halide composition capable of being coated on a support comprising a hydrophilic photosensitive silver halide emulsion containing a gelatino peptizer with an organic solvent mixture, a hydrophobic binder and an oxidation-reduction image-forming composition comprising (i) a silver salt of a long-chain fatty acid with (ii) an organic reducing agent, improvements are provided by a solvent mixture comprising a combination of (A) an alcohol photographic speed-increasing solvent which is a compound selected from the group consisting of benzyl alcohol photographic speed-increasing solvents and 2-phenoxyethanol speed-increasing solvents with (B) an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent that is compatible with the alcohol solvent and (C) 0 to 10% by weight of the solvent mixture of such hydrophobic binder. The described photothermographic composition can be prepared by very thoroughly mixing, such as ultrasonic wave mixing, (I) a hydrophilic photosensitive silver halide emulsion with (II) an organic solvent mixture comprising described (A), (B) and (C), and then very thoroughly mixing the resulting product with (III) comprising (a) a hydrophobic binder and (b) an oxidation-reduction image-forming composition comprising (i) a silver salt of a long-chain fatty acid with (ii) an organic reducing agent, typically in an organic solvent. The photothermographic composition can be coated on a suitable support to provide a photothermographic element.

摘要: A liquid such as an aqueous or non aqueous photographic solution or dispersion, for example an aqueous gelatin-silver halide emulsion, is debubbled by flowing a stream into, through and out of a debubbling chamber while maintaining a pool in the chamber. Ultrasonic vibrations are transmitted to the pool by energizing an ultrasonic horn positioned within the pool, and a vacuum is pulled on the chamber to assist gas disengagement and removal. In one modification the entering liquid flows down the interior walls of the chamber as a thin film which is subjected to ultrasonic vibration by external transducers. The apparatus comprises a closed container, an ultrasonic horn projecting up from the bottom in position to be immersed in the pool, the vacuum forming means connected to the container above the surface of the liquid pool. The horn''s free end surface can be smooth, or can have projections or holes for energy concentration. The horn can have one, two or more antinodes within the container, and can have lateral projections at any antinode other than at the end. Means are provided for sensing the pool level and controlling the inflow of liquid to hold the level constant.

摘要: Method of purifying an aqueous emulsion containing a silver halide suspended therein and using same in an imaging process which comprises contacting said emulsion with a first ionexchange material which provides one of the ions selected from the class consisting of hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions and with a second ion-exchange material which provides the opposite ion from that provided by said first ion-exchange material, the time of contact of said emulsion with each of said ion-exchange materials being sufficient to exchange substantially all of the ions in said emulsion for hydrogen and hydroxyl ions, and then separating the emulsion from said ion-exchange materials. The emulsion is applied to a base support exposed to actinic radiation to selectively harden a portion of the surface and then washing away the unhardened layer.

摘要: First, the overall quantity of bubbles in a coating liquid is reduced in advance by vacuum deaeration performed in conjunction with preparation of the coating liquid in a stirring tank in a first step, then bubbles of relatively large sizes, of bubbles that have not been removed in the first step are removed by a tank type deaeration device with ultrasonic waves in a floatation tank in a second step, and finally bubbles of very small to small sizes that are difficult to remove in the first and second steps are dissolved in the liquid under pressure with ultrasonic waves and thereby removed in a pipeline in a third step. According to this, bubbles in the coating liquid can reliably be removed irrespective of the nature of the coating liquid, a large amount of coating liquid can be treated, and the possibility that the quality of the deaerated coating liquid is adversely affected is eliminated.

摘要: A method of cooling a photographic coating composition in a sol state is disclosed. The composition that includes photographic emulsion, an emulsified material or gelatin solution, or comprising combinations thereof is continuously cooled by employing heat exchanger, and after being transformed into a gel state, the resulting product is placed into a storage vessel.
