The use of bulk-solidifying amorphous metal alloys, frequently called “liquid metals”, are disclosed as a preferred material of construction for the manufacture of mechanical resonators, such as mechanical resonators utilized in the following: systems using tuning forks and variants of tuning forks, inertial microbalances, vibrating level detectors, vibrating viscosity and rheology measuring instruments, vibrating tube meters, such as Coriolis mass flow meters, vibrating structure gyroscopes, vortex flow meters, sonotrodes for various applications such as welding and medical applications, and piezoelectric activated mechanical resonators. A method of attaining high mechanical Q factors, sensitivity, elasticity, hardness, and high specific strength properties offered by the use of bulk-solidifying amorphous metal alloys in the manufacture of mechanical resonators is disclosed.

An electrodynamic shaker apparatus is disclosed for providing shaking and/or vibrational motion. The shaker includes armature and stator assemblies as well as a distributed spring assembly. The shaker apparatus of the present invention is robust, supports increased off-center loads, and has a low profile such that it may be easily placed under an item of furniture in order to impart vibrational motion in response to electrical signals from a variety of sources.

An ultrasonic atomizing apparatus including an ultrasonic vibration generator and an ultrasonic vibrator horn having a cylindrical section connected at one end to the ultrasonic vibration generator and having a flared portion connected to the other end of the cylindrical section. The flared portion is flared and enlarged in diameter towards the tip end of the horn and is adapted to atomize liquid material on the flared portion as the liquid material is supplied from a liquid material supply nozzle to the flared portion. A hollow recess is formed in the flared portion opening toward the tip end of the horn. The geometry of the hollow recess is such that the cross-sectional area of the flared portion of the horn in any plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the horn is the same as the cross-sectional area of the flared portion in all other planes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the horn. The horn also has a single nodal point positioned above a boundary between the cylindrical section and the flared portion when the horn is ultrasonically excited.

A supersonic vibration driven motor comprising a supersonic oscillator and a mass rotationally driven thereby. The oscillator is provided with a vibration disc secured thereto on an end face thereof opposite to the mass to be driven. The mass is integrally formed with a plurality of plate-shaped resilient vibratory pieces annularly arranged on the end face opposite to the oscillator and axially extending at a predetermined angle of inclination relative to the axis of the mass, the vibration disc and vibratory pieces being located so as to come in contact with each other at their end portions, whereby vibratory displacement of the supersonic oscillator is transformed into rotational movement of the mass by way of flexible deformation of the vibratory pieces. Alternatively, the resilient vibratory pieces may be formed integrally with the vibration disc. A plurality of supersonic oscillators may be annularly arranged and located so as to come in contact with the end face of the mass so that operational phases of the respective supersonic oscillators have a predetermined phase relationship ensuring even and smooth rotation. A plurality of supersonic oscillators integrally formed with vibratory pieces and arranged in linear alignment may be located so as to come in contact with a mass to be linearly driven, whereby vibratory displacement of the supersonic oscillators is transformed into linear movement of the mass by way of flexible deformation of the vibratory pieces.

The present invention provides an ultrasonic processing device which comprises one or more sets each including a wide horn which resonantly vibrates in a 1/2 wave length in a longitudinal direction and in a 1/2.times.n wave length in a widthwise direction thereof, and an ultrasonic vibrator which is joined either to an intermediate point of the wide horn at which amplitude of vibrations is maximum in the distribution thereof along the widthwise direction or to a point at a widthwise end of the wide horn at which amplitude of vibrations is maximum in the distribution thereof along the widthwise direction. Thus, at an end of the wide horn, maximum and minimum values may alternately appear by every 1/4 wave length distance over the entire width thereof and hence vibrations of the wide horn can be considered generally uniform over the entire width thereof. Also, wide horns in a plurality of sets may be disposed in spaced relationship in a direction in which an article to be processed is fed in order to attain further uniformed application of vibrations to the article to be processed.

The soft metallic coating in the described embodiment comprises an alloy of tin and lead which is applied over the nickel plated horn surface.
