Abstract: A tire has an asymmetrical carcass comprising two plies of cords forming a network of quadrilateral meshes. The sides of the quadrilaterals form with the circumferential direction of the tire acute angles Alpha and Beta which are different and which vary as a function of the distance of the mesh from the axis of the tire. The angle Alpha is larger than the angle Beta and varies, between any two points located at different distances from the axis, more than does the angle Beta . In manufacturing the tire by turning the edges of the two plies around bead wires on a building drum and then shaping the assembly into the form of a tire, at least one of the bead wires is permitted to rotate about the axis of the tire so that the meshes rotate about normals to the carcass.

Abstract: A tire construction is disclosed wherein there is a combination of radial and bias plies, there typically being twice as many bias plies as radial plies. In a preferred embodiment for passenger car utilization, three plies are employed, a radial ply being disposed outside two bias plies. Both the bias and radial plies are preferably 12s X 12z twist for 1,260/2 and 840/3 denier cords and 10S X 10Z twist for 1,100/2 and 840/2 denier cords, while either of these twists may be employed with 1,100/3 denier cords. The angle of the bias ply in the cured crown is preferably 35* and the radial ply preferably 90*. The preferred thermal shrinkage at 190* C. of both plies is approximately 17 percent (12 tpi). With these specific parameters, a cooperative structure between the radial and bias plies is effectuated which facilitates manufacture of these tires especially with respect to conventional radial ply tires.

Abstract: A vehicle tire which provides a simple means of mounting, dismounting, or exchanging tire treads. The tire carcass is designed in such a manner that the diameter increases by 15 percent or more when the tire is inflated to operating or operable pressure. On the carcass, in place of the conventional integral tread there is a wide annular groove or channel having spaced sidewalls. The tread comprises an annular nonstretchable flexible band or belt which snugly fits in the channel between the sidewalls. When the tire is inflated and expands radially outwardly, the nonexpandable tread is securely and firmly held in place in the channel, but it can be removed and replaced when the tire is deflated. The interengaging inner annular surface of the tread member or band and the outer surface or bottom of the tread receiving channel may be formed with complemental, interengaging means or lugs which are forced into interengagement with each other when the annular tread band is fitted into the channel and the tire is inflated to resist relative slippage between the tire and the annular belt tread member.
