    摘要: A connecting device is disclosed for joining a trailer to a towing vehicle for substantial horizontal and vertical pivotal movements, as well as longitudinal rotation, of the trailer relative to the towing vehicle. A shaft added to one yoke of a pair of yokes comprising a universal joint is journalled in a block for rotation through 360 degrees. A similar shaft having a stop at its outer end and secured to the other yoke of the universal joint is inserted into a split block which functions as a quick-release clamping device upon closing of the block to secure the shaft. The bearing block preferably is affixed to the tongue or tow bar of the trailer and the split block is secured to the towing vehicle, the connecting device may be reversed end-for-end.

    摘要: A suspension for a rigid front axle assembly (28) of an articulated mining truck (10) includes a bolster plate (30) upon which the axle assembly is fixedly cradled, a spherical or swivel bearing assembly (36) connecting the front end of the bolster plate to the chassis of the vehicle, and a hollow unitary elastomeric block (70) that is mounted to resiliently couple the rear end of the bolster plate to the chassis. The elastomeric block is preferably elongate and longitudinally oriented, and the block has a cavity that extends longitudinally through its center that is aligned with a longitudinal axis (A-A) through the spherical bearing. The elongate walls thus provided at the sides of the elastomeric block are sufficiently flexible to bulge outwardly when the axle assembly oscillates about the longitudinal axis A-A. The elastomeric block further permits the axle assembly to swing a limited amount about an axis (D-D) extending transversely of the bearing to thereby act as a spring for cushioning shock loading on the front axle.

    摘要: A combination car system is made up from a first car and a second car, both of which are capable of running independently. The first car includes a pair of front wheels by which it is driven, a pair of rear wheels, and an engine the output of which is controlled by a first engine output control element. The second car includes a pair of front wheels, a pair of rear wheels by which it is driven, and an engine the output of which is controlled by a second engine output control element. When the cars are running independently, displacement of an accelerator pedal in the first car is transmitted by a first displacement transmission mechanism to the first engine output control element, and displacement of an accelerator pedal in the second car is transmitted by a second displacement transmission mechanism to the second engine output control element. The second displacement transmission mechanism includes: a connection unit; a first displacement transmission submechanism which is detachably coupled to, and which transmits displacement of the accelerator pedal of the second car to, this connection unit; and a second displacement transmission submechanism, which transmits displacement of this connection unit to the second engine output control element. The first car and the second car are couplable together into a combination car which runs on the front wheels of the first car and on the rear wheels of the second car, the rear wheels of the first car and the front wheels of the second car being at this time removed from road contact. At this time, the coupling of the first displacement transmission submechanism is removed from the connection unit, and a third displacement transmission mechanism is fitted to extend between and to transmit displacement between a part of the first displacement transmission mechanism in the first car and the connection unit. Thereby both the engines of the combination car may be controlled by using the accelerator pedal of the first car, and the accelerator pedal of the second car is at this time disenabled.

    摘要: A device is provided for use in releasably securing one unit (e.g., the rear end of a truck vehicle) against a second unit (e.g., a loading dock). The device comprises an elongated member mounted for controlled endwise movement relative to a locking assembly, the latter being adjustably mounted on the loading dock. Carried by the elongated member and extending from an end thereof towards the truck is an attaching means which is secured to the truck. A friction means is adjustably mounted within the locking assembly for movement between operative and inoperative positions. When in an operative position, the elongated member can be moved endwise in only one direction away from the truck. When in an inoperative position, the elongated member can be moved in either endwise direction relative to the locking assembly. The friction means is biased to normally assume an operative position. Manually actuated means is carried on the locking assembly for moving the friction means from an operative position to an inoperative position.

    摘要: A hitch for use with the rear bumper of a truck or the like. The hitch includes a hollow diamond-shaped housing having a forward end, an open rearward end, top and bottom portions. A horizontally disposed tongue member has its forward end selectively movably received by the open rearward end of the housing and is selectively movable from a towing position to a hitching position. In the towing position, the tongue member has its forward end positioned adjacent the forward end of the housing. In the hitching position, the forward end of the tongue member is positioned towards the rearward end of the housing. The horizontal width of the housing intermediate its rearward and forward ends is greater than the width of the tongue member to permit horizontal swinging movement of the tongue member, relative to the housing, when the tongue member is in its hitching position. A spring-loaded pin extends downwardly through the rearward end of the housing and the tongue member to maintain the tongue member in its towing position. A plurality of longitudinally extending and horizontally spaced apart shafts are secured at their opposite ends to the top portion of the housing. A support is movably mounted on the shafts and a spring means mounted on the shafts yieldably resists relative movement between the shafts and the support. The support is rigidly secured to the bumper.
