    摘要: The invention provides a crank assembly for a chain driven mechanism such as a bicycle. The crank assembly has at one end of a crank arm, a journal adapted for engagement with an axle. The axle has at its other end a connection. The one end of the crank arm has mounted thereon a housing via a unidirectional variable clutch, the housing having an extension to which, in use, an activation means such as a brake cable or cables is/are attached. The arrangement is such that during normal forward rotation the crank arm moves normally and the housing is stationary relative thereto, while during back or reverse movement of the crank arm the housing moves to activate the brake cable or cable means.

    摘要: A friction device for controlling a clamping roller coupling for a drive device or for a back-pedal brake device connected to a bicycle hub can include a driving link with an ascending surface profile, at least one roll, a cage ring with cage arms, and an output link. The output link can be a brake jacket of the brake device. The brake device can be actuated by pedalling backword to tighten a friction spring on the hub axle. The friction spring can be realized as a loop spring, and a freewheel can be connected between the loop spring and the cage ring. The freewheel can include a first notch element non-rotatably connected to the cage ring, and a second notch element non-rotatably connected to the loop spring. When pedaling in the normal direction of rotation, the first and second notch elements are disengaged and torque is not transmitted to the loop spring. Upon back-pedalling, the first and second notch elements can non-rotatably engage to tighten the loop spring about the axle and transmit braking torque to the output link.

The rate the beam force is applied to the drive provides the person pedaling the vehicle, bicycle riding or running exercise in one beam revolution. Reversing the pedal rotation also rotates the beam in the reverse direction for vehicular braking.

    摘要: A pedal actuated caliper brake actuating mechanism for a bicycle having a multi-gear chain drive includes an elongate lever mounted on the bicycle frame for resiliently resisted pivotal movement from a rest position about an axis generally coincident with that of the pedal driven main sproket. The lever is formed with two upwardly facing abutment surfaces closely spaced from opposite sides of the path of movement of the main sprocket teeth along the lower rear quadrant of the sprocket. An arm pivotally mounted at its lower end on the lever carries a horizontal roller at its upper end which projects above and laterally across both abutment surfaces and the sprocket tooth path. A resilient member fixed at one end to the arm carries a plate at its upper end which projects into the sprocket tooth path at an inclination such that the teeth slide past the plate during forward rotation of the sprocket and positively engage the plate and drive it downwardly upon reverse rotation of the sprocket. Downward movement of the plate pivots the arm to shift the roller below a downwardly moving tooth of the sprocket which in turn drives the roller into engagement with the abutment surfaces of the lever to depress the lever. Depression of the lever first actuates a mechanism to frictionally engage the rear sprocket for minimal rotation relative to the frame and then tensions a cable to apply the brake.

    摘要: A coaster brake for a bicycle has a brake operating lever consisting of a yoke and integral arm coupled to the pedal crankshaft of the bicycle by a self-acting unidirectional friction clutch, formed by a coil spring embracing the crankshaft. In order to facilitate its insertion into the crankshaft housing, the lever has no dimension greater than the internal diameter of the housing. The spring has two portions, one on either side of the yoke, the wire forming the part of each portion nearer the yoke being of greater cross section than the part further from the yoke. The lever moves a brake actuating rod or cable actuating a wheel brake which may be of several different types.

    摘要: A special heater design and arrangement utilizes remote burners to provide for the convective heating of fluid streams which are sensitive to overheating. The remote burners together with means to recirculate a portion of the stack gas to admix with the hot combustion gases from the burners provide for the regulation of the temperature of the hot convection gases being passed from the combustion zone to a separate tube heating section. A preferred design and construction of the system utilizes small diameter tubes in the heat transfer section so as to permit thinner wall tubing and also, from safety aspects, will minimize the quantity of a combustible fluid which could be released into a heating chamber in the event of a tube rupture.
