    摘要: A method for forming holes in the wall of a submerged tank and removing liquid material therefrom. First and second holes are first formed in the wall of the tank wherein the first hole is positioned higher than the second hole. The holes are formed in such a manner as to prevent the liquid material from escaping the tank and contaminating a liquid body surrounding the tank. The liquid material is pumped out from one of the holes while the liquid surrounding the submerged tank enters the other of the holes. The holes are formed by using an air drill which is mounted on a spring-loaded frame within a cone-shaped housing, wherein the base of the cone-shaped housing is fastened to a side of the tank. The drill is positioned along the center line of the cone while the hole is being formed and the spring-loaded frame carries the drill away from the center line of the cone after the hole is formed, if access to the formed hole is desired.

The chamber may be provided with a life-supporting environment and the apparatus and method of this invention being operable from therewithin.

    摘要: The disclosure relates to an enclosure for weaponry, listening, identifying, recording, communications equipment or the like for use in or on the seabed. The enclosure comprises an outer cylindrical container (10) having a buoyancy chamber (34) to render one end (11) of the container more buoyant than the other (12) so that the container lies in a vertical orientation when disposed in the sea. At the other end (12) of the container there are propeller/impellors (28) for activating sand/silt/shingle on the seabed to create a cavity below the container into which the container can self bury. A container has a payload compartment (32) for holding weaponry, listening, recording and/communications equipment. The container was has a double (13,14) wall partitioned (15) to form a plurality of separate passages (A,B,C) extending spirally from inlets (16,17,18) at the lower end of the container upwardly to outlets (25,26,27) at the top of the container through which activated sand/silt/shingle and water generated at the lower end of the container can flow upwardly and freely as the container self buries in the seabed.

    摘要: Embodiments of a pipeline repair habitat are disclosed which may be used to facilitate the repair of vertical underwater pipelines or risers. Two hollow, half-cylindrical shells are provided which form a stable, rigid shell around the section of pipe to be repaired. Structure is provided for introducing an atmosphere into the habitat which is breathable while most repairs are accomplished. Under certain conditions a non explosive atmosphere which is not breathable is introduced into the habitat so that welding may be safely performed. Various useful accessories are provided including an elevator by which a person accomplishing repairs may move up and down within the pipeline repair habitat.

    摘要: A self-actuating clamp for attachment to a structural member in a subsea environment is disclosed. The clamp includes a housing having spaced side members, a transverse compression plate mounted between the members across the top of the housing and external accessory mounting surfaces. A pair of opposed, elongated jaw members have their upper portions disposed within the housing, the upper portions of which include upper ends adapted for pivotal mating engagement for permitting limited pivotal movement between the members, with the lower portions of the jaw members projecting below the housing and adapted for opposing clamping engagement with the subsea structural member. Force exerting means, which in one embodiment may comprise a pair of leaf spring assemblies, are provided to cooperate with the housing and jaw members to exert sufficient forces on the jaw members to clamp the jaw members to the exterior surface of the structural member. A trigger actuating assembly is provided for maintaining the jaw members in an open position while the clamp is properly positioned over the structural member, and releases the jaw members for permitting the force exerting means to close the jaw members into clamping engagment with the subsea structural member. Locking apparatus may also be provided for locking the jaw members in the clamped position engaging the subsea structural member.
