摘要: A hybrid electric aircraft propulsion system and method of operation are described. The system comprises a thermal engine, a generator coupled to the thermal engine, a first electric propulsor operatively connected to the generator to receive alternating current (AC) electric power therefrom, a second electric propulsor, a generator inverter operatively connected to the generator to convert AC electric power to direct current (DC) electric power, and a first motor inverter operatively connected to the generator inverter and selectively connected to one of the first electric propulsor and the second electric propulsor and configured to receive the DC electric power and provide the first electric propulsor and the second electric propulsor with AC electric power, respectively.

摘要: A clutch has an inner race, an outer race spaced from the inner race and forming a radial cavity between the races, and a plurality of sprags disposed in the radial cavity. The sprags have a different coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) from the inner race, the outer race, or both races, and a sprag cage retains the sprags at a uniform spacing within the radial cavity. When the clutch is at a first temperature, a gap exists between the sprags and the inner race, between the sprags and the outer race, or between the sprags and both races, and the clutch is disengaged. When the clutch is at a second temperature the sprags are in contact with both the races, and the clutch is engaged.

The connection assembly is configured to connect the propeller to the motor and includes a locking member that is arranged between the propeller and the motor. The contactor also includes an actuator connected to the cam, the actuator responsive to a control current and operable to rotate the cam and a controller, the controller operable to supply a control current the actuator.

摘要: A gear train includes a first gear having teeth meshed with teeth of a second gear. Each tooth of the first gear includes a coast side and a drive side opposed to the coast side. The drive side has a pressure angle that is greater than that of the coast side. The gear train can be part of a powertrain system for a rotorcraft, and can replace a traditional gear train in a retrofit or new build. The first gear is a planet gear and the second gear is a ring gear wherein the planet gear and ring gear are in a planetary gear train configuration.

摘要: A flexible coupling includes a first disc and a second disc arranged along a rotation axis. The first disc and the second disc each include a radially inner hub portion, a radially outer rim portion, and a diaphragm portion extending between the hub portion and the rim portion. The first disc rim portion is connected to the second disc rim portion and the first disc has a diametral response mode that is different than a diametral response mode of the second disc to limit deformation in the flexible coupling when communicating rotation between a drive member and a driven member connected to one another by the flexible coupling. Drive trains and methods of making flexible couplings are also described.

The mechanically-distributed propulsion system may include an engine to generate a mechanical drive power, a drive shaft, a direction-reversing transmission, and a propulsor fan. The drive shaft may be operatively coupled to the engine to receive the mechanical drive power. The direction-reversing transmission may have a first rotating shaft and a second rotating shaft, the first rotating shaft operatively coupled to the drive shaft to receive the mechanical drive power, which is configured to redirect the mechanical drive power received at the first rotating shaft from a first direction to face a second direction at the second rotating shaft. The propulsor fan may be coupled to the second rotating shaft to convert the mechanical drive power into thrust.
