摘要: A tool for modifying a workpiece by either trimming or joining the workpiece. The tool is an electro-hydraulic tool that uses a pulse transmitted through a liquid to trim a workpiece or to join two thicknesses of metal together. A method of trimming the workpiece includes the steps of providing a high voltage discharge in a liquid that drives a workpiece into engagement with a cutting edge of a tool steel insert. A method of joining two or more thicknesses of metal together includes the step of creating a high voltage discharge through an electrode that accelerates one panel or thickness of metal into a second panel that is held stationary by a backing plate while the first thickness of metal is accelerated into the second thickness of metal.

摘要: A method of flange trimming a sheet metal panel to form a part including flanges for subsequent hemming or weld operation is disclosed. The method utilizes an electro-hydraulic forming (EHF) tool to form a channel within which a flange is cut out in a trimming operation. A combined flange/trim die may be provided in which both a channel forming operation and a flange trimming operation may be performed. A manufacturing system for fabricating a part by forming a channel in a peripheral portion and cutting the channel area to form a flange. The method also relates to a die for an EHF tool that defines a channel-shaped recess and has a trim edge for cutting a flange into the channel.

摘要: A perforator for presensitized plate has plural punches and a die array cooperating with the punches. A stripper plate retains the plate adjacent the die array when punches separate from the die array after the punches form punched holes in the plate. The punches and/or the die array is coated with non-crystalline hard carbon. The punched holes are formed in the plate. In a preferred embodiment, the coating of the punches and/or die array has a surface whose roughness is 0.8 .mu.m or less. A clearance defined between the punches and the die array is 10 to 30% of the thickness of the plate. Each advancing end of the punches is provided with a cylindrical tip portion of lesser width than the rest of the punch. The stripper plate is provided with a cushioning material mounted for contact with the plate.

摘要: Disclosed is a blanking method according to which, when producing a part by blanking from a plate material, a forming process consisting of coining is performed on the upper and lower surfaces of that portion of the plate material which becomes a scrap after the blanking. By the energy needed for this coining, the strain energy accumulated in the press as a result of the blanking of the part is absorbed. In this method, the breakthrough generated when producing parts by blanking with a press and a die can be mitigated or eliminated.

摘要: A ceramic die for cutting and shaping lead frames, in which at least a working section thereof is made of a specific ceramic material having an iron and cobalt content of less than 100 ppm in total. The ceramic die can be formed in a complex shape with a high precision and has a prolonged lifetime because of its superior mechanical properties, such as high wear resistance and high strength, and less probability of adhesion of foreign matter such as solder or the lead frame material thereto. Even if the solder or lead frame material is adhered onto the die, the adhered matter can be removed through a simple procedure in a shortened time. The die is further improved by depositing a hard carbon film onto the surface of the working section.

摘要: In a method of separating a product G connected to a skeleton portion S of work W via a micro joint M, from the skeleton portion, the product is separated from the skeleton portion by striking the skeleton portion in the vicinity of the micro joint to cut off the micro joint from the skeleton. Further, the die pair used for the above-mentioned method comprises a punch 17A provided with a projecting portion 17T at an end thereof and movable up and down; and a die 19A arranged under the punch and formed of an elastic substance. In this method, it is possible to separate products from the skeleton portion of the work efficiently by breaking the micro joints without scratching the products and without generating noise. Further, the separating work of the products from the skeleton portion can be easily automated.

摘要: In a follow-up slotting tool for continuously punching workpiece (W) fed between a punch (3) and a die unit (5) at a predetermined pitch, the punch (3) is formed with a shear angle (.alpha.) at a lower end surface thereof in such a way that a front end of the punch is cut into the workpiece but a rear end thereof is not cut into the workpiece when lowered at a predetermined downward stroke; and the die unit (5) is provided with a counter member (15) for raising a residue (W.sub.A) partially cut away from the workpiece, after the punch has been lowered at the predetermined downward stroke, and with a cutting edge (21) for cutting off the partially cutaway residue (W.sub.A) raised by the counter member in cooperation with the punch, when the punch is lowered at the succeeding predetermined downward stroke. The follow-up die can form an elongate slot, without forming any stepped portions at the junction portions of the workpiece, in spite of a relatively large pitch of the follow-up cutting processing of workpiece W.

摘要: To permit high-speed punching of complex shapes in extremely thin metal strips or ribbons, particularly for miniaturized semiconductor terminal elements, while using standardizing modular punch press components sush as a die, a stripper element and a punch carrier, with minimum longitudinal extent to suppress oscillations of the ribbon as it is being transported, at high punching frequencies, the stripper plate (2) is securely connected to a plurality of guide posts (6). Springs (18, 16) are provided which maintain the posts and the stripper plate in a base position, and lift the stripper plate above a die plate (1). These springs retain the posts, are circumferential spring rings (16) engaging a groove (17) in the posts and fitted in the die plate, or ball-and-detent arrangements (FIG. 9) coupling the die element (1) to the posts, while permitting yielding resilient relative movement between the die and the posts upon compression of the posts against the die during the punching stroke when the stripper element is engaged with the top surface of the workpiece strip (13). Workpiece guide pins (9) laterally guide the workpiece through the apparatus; the guide pins are spring-loaded to lift the workpiece off the die plate after a punching stroke to permit indexing or longitudinal movement of the workpiece.

摘要: A method is disclosed for producing contact pins having a mounting portion including three resilient legs. The mounting portion permits solderless mounting of the contact pin in plated-through holes of printed circuit boards. In a single combined stamping and cold extrusion operation, the three legs are brought to a position in which they make an angle of 120 degrees with each other. A die used for the production process includes a female and a male part. To form a first leg of the mounting portion, a punch in the male part is lowered into a corresponding slot in the female part. To form the two other legs, material from the shank of the contact pin is displaced by inclined surfaces of the female part into two recesses corresponding with these surfaces, the recesses being located at the two long sides of the punch in the male part.
