Abstract: A method for manufacturing an article, e.g. a nuclear pressure vessel. The method involves: a) charging at least one hopper with steel powder; b) supplying an oxide stripping medium to the steel powder in the at least one hopper; c) removing the oxide stripping medium and any oxide particles stripped from the steel powder from the at least one hopper; d) discharging the oxide stripped steel powder into a can that provides a mould for the article; and e) converting the steel powder to solid steel by hot isostatic pressing to form the article. Stripping the steel powder of oxides whilst the steel powder is in the at least one hopper optimises desirable material properties of the article and thereby quality and safety of the article.

Abstract: Disclosed is an alloyed steel powder for powder metallurgy from which sintered parts that do not contain expensive Ni, or Cr or Mn susceptible to oxidation, that have excellent compressibility, and that have high strength in an as-sintered state can be obtained. The alloyed steel powder for powder metallurgy has: a chemical composition containing Cu: 1.0 mass % to 8.0 mass %, with the balance being Fe and inevitable impurities; and constituent particles in which Cu is present in an precipitated state with an average particle size of 10 nm or more.

Abstract: A method of making a densified sintered titanium article includes forming a powder bed of a titanium feedstock. A binder is applied to a portion of the powder bed to bind the titanium feedstock together, thereby forming a green body. The green body is debinded to remove at least a portion of the binder to form a debinded titanium article. The debinded titanium article is sintered at a sintering temperature in an atmosphere comprising hydrogen to produce a sintered titanium article. The sintered titanium article is held at a phase transition temperature to form a microstructure-controlled titanium article. The microstructure-controlled titanium article is dehydrogenated to form a densified sintered titanium article.
