    Abstract: Techniques described herein include a communication and device discovery platform though which Internet of Things (IoT) devices may discover other IoT devices, ascertain device statuses, purposes, and the functions and operations supported by other IoT devices, and collaborate with other IoT devices to request and initiate particular functions and operations. Using the platform and corresponding functionality described herein, an IoT device may announce to another nearby IoT devices its general description, availability, required permissions, as well as a listing and description of functions it may perform. Other authorized IoT devices may make use of the broadcasted functions, using artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and additional techniques that enable independent and decentralized IoT devices to discover the purposes, supported functions and operations, and invoke the functionality of other IoT devices.

    Abstract: Novel techniques are described for recognizing subscriber devices that have not downloaded and properly configured a specialized application for remote coordination between the subscriber device and the subscriber's set-top box. For example, a network discovery routine can be executed by a set-top box communicatively coupled with a local area network (LAN) router, thereby discovering a portable device communicatively coupled with the LAN router. A pairing data store can be queried by the set-top box to determine that the discovered portable device is a presently unpaired portable device with respect to the remote media playback system. A prompt can be communicated to the presently unpaired portable device automatically in response to the querying, the prompt directing the presently unpaired portable device to pair with the remote media playback system.

    Abstract: Embodiments are directed toward locally generating a replacement spot beam signal to be combined with other orbital television signals, where the replacement spot beam signal is generated from locally received over-the-air television signals. Over-the-air television signals are received at a user's premises via an over-the-air antenna and orbital signals are received at the user's premises via a satellite antenna. The orbital signals include a spot beam signal and other orbital signals. The spot beam signal is specifically generated for the geographical area associated with the over-the-air television signals. One or more available local channels are extracted from the over-the-air television signals and are converted into the replacement spot beam signal that is a satellite-compatible signal. The replacement spot beam, instead of the original spot beam signal, is then combined with the other orbital signals and provided to a content receiver.

    Abstract: A system for coupling a satellite antenna to a mounting structure is provided. The system may include a mounting structure and a satellite antenna. The mounting structure may include a plurality of tabs extending upward, and located at a first elevation. The mounting structure may also define a first plurality of apertures located at a second elevation, where the first elevation is higher than the second elevation. The satellite antenna may define a second plurality of apertures configured to accept the plurality of tabs. The satellite antenna may be supported by the mounting structure upon the plurality of tabs being accepted by the second plurality of apertures. The satellite antenna may also define a third plurality of apertures which may be aligned with the first plurality of apertures upon the plurality of tabs being accepted by the second plurality of apertures.
