摘要: Video object units are generated from a program stream. The generated video object units have navigation portions respectively, and compose video objects. The navigation portions are void of ending time information and search information. The video object units are sequentially recorded on the recording disc without being buffered. Ending time information and search information are detected from the program stream. A decision is made as to whether or not the recording of video object units composing one video object has been completed. Navigation information is generated which includes the ending time information and the search information, and which corresponds to the last recorded video object. The generated navigation information is recorded on zones in the recording disc which correspond to the navigation portions of the video object units composing the last recorded video object each time the recording of video object units composing one video object has been completed.

摘要: An apparatus for recording and reproducing an information signal on and from an optical disc includes a memory. The information signal is written into the memory. The information signal is read out from the memory. An optical head generates a laser beam in response to the readout information signal, and applies the laser beam to the optical disc to record the readout information signal on the optical disc. A test signal is recorded on a position of the optical disc near a recording position thereof via the optical head during the writing of the information signal into the memory. The test signal is reproduced from the optical disc. The reproduced test signal is evaluated to generate an evaluation result. An intensity of the laser beam is optimized in response to the evaluation result.

摘要: An optical disc with a first recording layer has first data pits that include 14T data pits formed thereon in compliance with DVD-ROM specifications. A first reflective film is formed on the first recording layer, whereby the first reflective film has the relationship of 2.3≦Pw/Tf≦14 between the 14T pit width and the first reflective film thickness. The disc also includes a second recording layer having a first surface and an opposed second surface, whereupon second data pits are formed on the first surface in compliance with BD-ROM specifications. A second semi-transparent reflective film is formed on the second recording layer, while a transparent layer having opposed third and fourth surfaces is formed over the second reflective film at the third surface, such that the fourth surface allows a laser beam to pass therethrough in reproduction from either the first or second data pits.

摘要: Disclosed is an electronic service manual display program that eliminates the need to revise an electronic service manual when there is a revision, and enables the respective contents before and after revision to be browsed at the same time. The inventive technique utilizes a parts table database that has information for the various parts used for a predetermined product, and a differential parts table database that has processed information representing the types of alteration, deletion and addition for each of the parts. A parts table page is generated and displays a list of all the parts and the information of the parts stored in the parts table database and the differential parts table database. Accordingly, whether a part has been altered, deleted and/or added can be immediately identified.

摘要: A reflective liquid crystal display device combined with an optical system with a wire grid is provided for light modulation by a liquid crystal layer. This layer, made of nematic liquid crystal having negative dielectric anisotropy, is formed such that first and second orientation directions on first and second substrates are rotated by “60±α” and “60±β” degrees in first and second rotating directions starting from a reference direction, respectively. The first and second rotating directions are mutually opposite, the reference direction is parallel to the first and second substrates and within in an angular range defined by a central angle plus ±5 degrees wherein the central angle is ±45 degrees from an oscillation direction of incident polarized light, and a relationship of |α|+|β|≦10 (α and β are zero or positive integers) is fulfilled.

摘要: One of (1) a signal reproduced from a recording medium by a pickup device and (2) control information related to the reproduced signal is searched in a first search range for first information. A trial is made for detecting an optimum condition of a reproducing operation of the pickup device with respect to the recording medium on the basis of the first information. In cases where detecting an optimum condition of the reproducing operation of the pickup device with respect to the recording medium on the basis of the first information has been unsuccessful, one of (1) the reproduced signal and (2) the control information related to the reproduced signal is searched in a second search range different from the first search range for second information. An optimum condition of the reproducing operation of the pickup device is detected on the basis of the second information.
