A television receiver includes a long loop frequency and phase locked loop (FPLL) in which the tuner voltage is controlled by the output voltage of the FPLL. A SAW bandpass filter couples the IF signal from the tuner to a synchronous demodulator and to the FPLL. An oscillator includes a SAW resonator that is formed on the same substrate as the SAW bandpass filter for supplying a reference signal to the FPLL and to the synchronous demodulator. The common substrate assures tracking between the IF SAW bandpass filter and the oscillator SAW resonator with temperature changes and processing variations.

A method of operating a multi-standard noise immune sync pulse recovery system establishes a time window during which a sync pulse is expected. The count of a counter is stored when a sync pulse occurs as expected, the counter is reset and a sync output is generated. Successive sync pulses occurring as expected are verified by comparison with the stored counts. When a first predetermined number of successive sync pulses occur as expected, a state of periodicity is established for the signal. The window is progressively narrowed to optimize the system noise immunity responsive to a second predetermined number of sync pulses occurring as expected. Sync outputs are generated in the place of expected sync pulses that do not occur during the window when the system is in the state of periodicity. The state of periodicity is lost when a third predetermined number of sync pulses do not appear as expected and the window is progressively widened.

A single IC chip, eight channel, correction waveform generator for CRT displays is disclosed. Each channel may output a different waveform to correct a different form of raster distortion. A correction waveform is developed for each type of display distortion. For each correction waveform eight correction waveform segments spaced over the vertical scan cycle are then selected and nine values on each waveform segment are digitally stored in the chip for each channel. The chip generates a corrective waveform segment per channel for each horizontal scan line in the display by serially horizontally interpolating values for the intervals between the selected nine values. This horizontal interpolation uses weighted sum equations applied to the closest four known waveform segment values around the interval to produce interpolated values lying on curves between the selected values. In order to obtain known waveform values for horizontal scan lines not having selected and stored waveform values corresponding thereto, linear vertical interpolation is performed to supply the known values for horizontal interpolation. Careful selection of numerical weights in the weighted sums equations, and the need for few known values to solve the interpolation equations, lead to reduced hardware requirements within the IC. Great control over CRT display correction is thus obtained with a minimal number of specified correction values.

A portion of the covering may be formed to match the cross-section profile of the mask frame surface to which it is attached. The covering may be formed in a continuous rectangle to form a rectangular frame assembly capable of attachment to a faceplate.

The received signal is detected by a synchronous detector in response to a regenerated carrier signal and interfering NTSC beat components in the output of the detector are attenuated by a comb filter having a notch at fs/3. The output of the comb filter comprises an M-level signal, where M is greater than N, which is converted to an N-level signal corresponding to the demodulated video signal.

A dual in-band/out-of-band CATV receiver includes a coupler that couples input signals to a tuner and decoder for demodulation and recovery of in-band data and to an FSK receiver for recovery of out-of-band data. The recovered data outputs of the decoder and of the FSK receiver are coupled to a data switch that has a common output that is coupled to a tuner/decoder microprocessor. The tuner/decoder microprocessor in turn supplies information to a switch microprocessor for controlling operation of the data switch to couple either in-band or out-of-band data to the tuner/decoder microprocessor. The data switch defaults to the in-band data position whenever a channel change occurs.

A method of finding a given line in the vertical blanking interval of a television signal in which the given line is preceded by a run-in signal and for recovering data on that line. A target line is accessed by counting a number of horizontal pulses after a vertical sync pulse and a test for the run-in signal is made. If the run-in signal is not found, another line in the vicinity of the target line is accessed after a subsequent vertical sync pulse. The process is repeated until the given line is found whereupon the number of horizontal pulses counted is remembered and directly used to access said given line in subsequent vertical blanking intervals. If no run-in signal is found, accessing and testing of corresponding lines in the other field of a two interlaced field television system is performed.
