Abstract:
A high expansion anti-rotation anchor catcher includes a helical track positioned on an exterior surface of a tubular body. An expandable gripper cage is provided having an axially fixed hub mounted for rotation about the tubular body and an axially movable hub mounted for rotation about the tubular body. Pivoting linkages which support outwardly oriented grippers extend between the axially fixed hub and the axially movable hub. The axially movable hub has a track follower that engages the helical track on the exterior surface of the tubular body. Rotation of the tubular body in a first rotational direction causes the track follower to move along the helical track toward the axially fixed hub, thereby placing the expandable gripper cage in compression and causing the pivoting linkages and grippers to pivot outwardly away from the tubular body to secure the anchor in position.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for manufacturing graphene including rotating a continuous surface within an evacuated chamber; coating the surface with a catalyst layer; heating portions of the catalyst layer; coating the heated portions of the catalyst layer with one or more layers of graphene; monitoring grain growth of the graphene layer; if the monitored grain growth indicates unacceptable grain growth, then taking corrective action; and removing the catalyst layer and the layer of graphene from the surface by heating other portions of the catalyst layer.
Abstract:
A separator is disclosed for separating particles of at least first and second mass/size ranges from an ambient fluid (e.g. gaseous) medium in which they are present, particles of the first range being of generally larger size/mass than particles of the second range. The separator is especially designed for use in an air monitoring device which is designed for rapid detection of micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses, pathogens and the like, and is designed to be portable so that it can be readily and rapidly deployed in both civilian and military environments and can be used indoors and outdoors; it can also be designed for personal use.
Abstract:
The present invention is method for scheduling jobs in a grid computing environment without having to monitor the state of the resource on the gird comprising a Global Scheduling Program (GSP) and a Local Scheduling Program (LSP). The GSP receives jobs submitted to the grid and distributes the job to the closest resource. The resource then runs the LSP to determine if the resource can execute the job under the conditions specified in the job. The LSP either rejects or accepts the job based on the current state of the resource properties and informs the GSP of the acceptance or rejection. If the job is rejected, the GSP randomly selects another resource to send the job to using a resource table. The resource table contains the state-independent properties of every resource on the grid.
Abstract:
Changes in wireless service user behavior are encouraged and produced to shape utilization patterns among cells within a rate plan region by using shaping rules which define potential discounts from a standard charge rate under certain cell-specific utilization conditions, analyzing the shaping rules and utilization statistics of a cell upon service initiation, generating a discount from the standard rate for underutilized cells. The user is notified of these discount opportunities using text messages, icons, or other means. Over time, the users learn that at certain places and times, significant discounts are offered, and thus changes their behavior to take advantage of those discounts, thereby shaping traffic in a manner desired by the service provider.
Abstract:
Component failures are reported using a radio-frequency identification tag associated with an electronic component of a computer system installed on a common communications bus and power bus among at least one other electronic component wherein failure of a component may cause disruption of the power bus, the communications bus, or both busses; a system-level diagnostic function within the computer system but external to the first electronic component receiving a diagnostic failure indication from the first electronic component, and responsive to receipt of the diagnostic failure indication, sending a latching signal to the first electronic component; and a latch controllable by the latching signal, the latch having at least two stable modes including an unlatched mode which prevents the tag from transmitting signals upon query by a radio-frequency identification reader, and a latched mode which enables the tag to transmit signals upon query by a radio-frequency identification reader.
Abstract:
Systems, methods and media for performing auto-migration of data among a plurality of memory devices are disclosed. In one embodiment, memory access of application program data is monitored for each of one or more application programs. The data may be stored in one or more of a plurality of memory storage devices, each with its own performance characteristics. Monitored access is evaluated to determine an optimal distribution of the application programs data, typically stored in files, among the plurality of memory storage devices. The evaluation takes into account service level requirements of each application program. Periodically, data may be automatically transferred from one memory storage device to another to achieve the determined optimal allocation among the available memory storage devices consistent with service level requirements.

Abstract:
A method, computer program product, and a data processing system continuously tracks the potentially changing location of a plurality of global positioning system (GPS) enabled mobile devices such as a cellular phones or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Generated GPS location updates are used to determine the location and directional velocity of each monitored device. Unique and separate optimal navigation convergence routes are provided to each device. Convergence locations and ETA indicators are provided. A common destination for the devices based on the separate convergence routes is provided. The common destination can be user selected or automatically determined by the system. The system is capable of providing convergence route and common destination information even when users of the various GPS devices are unaware of their present location, the location of other consenting devices, or the location of the common destination.
Abstract:
Changes in user behavior of usage of wireless services from a mobile device are encouraged in order to effect shaping of traffic and utilization patterns among a plurality of cells within a rate plan region, wherein a discount indicator disposed in said mobile device is provided to notify a user of a discount available for consuming wireless service from a given cell. A geo-cost policy established for that user or mobile device in which rules and conditions according to the available discounts and class of service are defined. A service completer queues services and automatically completes queued services upon present conditions meeting said geo-cost policy rules, such as delaying and later delivering messages when the mobile device relocates to a cell where discounts are being offered.
