Abstract: Exemplary methods and systems may image an object of interest using one or more waveguide assemblies including gated elements. The gated elements may be configurable in a transmission state, a reception state, or a passive state. The exemplary methods and systems may deliver electromagnetic energy (e.g., microwave energy) to an object of interest using a gated element of a waveguide assembly configured in a transmission state and sample scattered field using a gated element of another waveguide assembly configured in the reception state while the remainder of gated elements are configured in the passive state.

Abstract: In a method of correcting a desired color of a pixel to be displayed in an optical see-through display, a binned-display profile of prescribed colors arranged to be rendered by the display include background colors added to it so that the desired color can be matched to a closest one of the resulting predicted color profile of colors which are predicted to be perceived by a user. The display is then instructed to display the prescribed color which corresponds with the closest matching predicted color such that an observer substantially perceives the desired color. Typically the desired color is only compared to a subset of the predicted colors for efficiency. Additional corrections may take place to improve contrast of graphical content compared to the background in some instance.

Abstract: An expedient piezoelectric coupled buoy energy harvester from ocean waves is developed. The harvester is made of several piezoelectric coupled cantilevers attached to a floating buoy structure, which can be easily suspended in the intermediate and deep ocean for energy harvesting. In the buoy structure, a slender cylindrical floater is attached on a large sinker. The energy harvesting process is realized by converting the transverse ocean wave energy to the electrical energy via the piezoelectric patches mounted on the cantilevers fixed on the buoy. A smart design of the buoy structure is developed to increase the energy harvesting efficiency by investigation of the effects of the sizes of the floater and the sinker. A numerical model is presented to calculate the generated electric power from buoy energy harvester. The research findings show that up to 22 W electric power can be generated by the proposed expedient buoy harvester with the length of the piezoelectric cantilevers of 1 m and the total length of the buoy of 12 m. The technique proposed in this research can provide an expedient, feasible and stable energy supply from the floating buoy structure.

Abstract: The invention is directed to methods of using Chlorella protothecoides microalgal biomass in the treatment of individuals having impaired glucose metabolism. In some cases, the patient has impaired fasting glucose, impaired glucose tolerance, or diabetes. In some methods, algal biomass is used to reduce blood glucose and/or body fat in a subject, or to increase the relative abundance of beneficial gut microflora in a subject. In preferred embodiments, the biomass is derived from Chlorella protothecoides cultures grown heterotrophically in which the algal cells comprise at least 15% algal oil by dry weight.

Abstract: An exoskeletal rehabilitation device supports a hand, a lower arm portion, and an upper arm portion of a user relative to a supporting surface for rehabilitating the arm. The device has a shoulder frame that pivots about a first shoulder axis relative to a base frame fixed onto the supporting surface. An upper arm frame alongside the upper arm portion pivots on the shoulder frame about a second shoulder axis transverse to the first. A lower arm frame alongside the lower arm portion pivots on the upper arm frame about an upright elbow axis. A wrist frame supports a handle frame that receives the hand relative to the lower arm frame. The wrist frame pivots on the lower arm frame about a longitudinal axis longitudinal of the lower arm portion, while the handle frame pivots on the wrist frame about a wrist axis for flexion and extension of the hand.
