Abstract: An apparatus configured to be employed within an evolved Node B (eNodeB) or within a User Equipment (UE) is disclosed. The apparatus includes control circuitry. The control circuitry is configured to configure a semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) configuration that accommodates short subframes. The short subframes have a transmit time interval (TTI) of less than duration of 1 legacy subframe (e.g., 1 ms). The SPS configuration is provided within a radio resource control (RRC) signaling.

Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a user equipment (UE) may enter into an E-UTRAN Routing Area Paging Channel state, and is configured with an E-UTRAN Routing Area and an Anchor identifier to identify an anchor evolved Node B (eNB) for the UE. The UE selects to a new cell without performing a handover procedure, and performs a cell update procedure. The UE also may enter into a Cell Update Connected state, and is configured with an Anchor identifier. The UE selects to a new cell, performs a cell update procedure, performs a buffer request procedure, and performs a cell update procedure to download buffered data and to perform data transmission with the new cell.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) is configured to perform cell selection and camp on a first cell in a first frequency resource. The UE is configured to determine that proximity services are supported in a second frequency resource. The first and second wireless frequency resources are within licensed spectrums corresponding to one or more mobile communications networks. The UE is configured to start device-to-device communication on the second frequency resource and send, with the transceiver, a device-to-device message in the second frequency resource. The device-to-device message includes one of a device-to-device discovery message and a device-to-device communication message.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), Next Generation Node-B (gNB) and methods of communication are generally described herein. The UE receive training signals from a plurality of transmit-receive points (TRPs) associated with the gNB. Each training signal may comprise a reference signal resource identifier (ID) to indicate a corresponding TRP and a corresponding transmit direction of a plurality of transmit directions. The UE may, for each transmit direction of the plurality of transmit directions, determine an average signal quality measurement based on individual signal quality measurements in multiple receive directions. The UE may select, for reporting to the gNB, a subset of the average signal quality measurements to ensure that the average signal quality measurements excluded from the subset are less than or equal to a minimum value of the average signal quality measurements in the subset.

Abstract: A next generation NodeB (gNB) implements a radio access network (RAN) convergence functionality for new radio (NR) and wireless local area network (WLAN) access, the gNB further implementing a split architecture comprising a central unit (CU) and a distributed unit (DU) for each of the NR access and WLAN access. The gNB receives a data packet for transmission to a user equipment (UE) implementing the RAN convergence functionality, the data packet comprising one of a control plane (CP) packet or a user plane (UP) packet. The gNB splits the data packet via a convergence layer residing on the NR CU or a convergence layer residing on the WLAN CU and transmits the split data packet over the NR access and the WLAN access.

Abstract: Logic may receive an initial communication from a user device, the initial communication comprising capabilities. Logic may determine, based on an indication of a capability to support new radio frequency layers from the capabilities for the user device, a measurement gap configuration for the new radio frequency layers and a measurement gap configuration for a channel state information reference signal. Logic may send a frame with a preamble to a physical layer comprising the measurement gap configuration. Logic may send an initial communication to a physical layer, wherein the initial communication comprises capabilities for a user device. Logic may decode downlink data with a measurement gap configuration. And logic may parse the measurement gap configuration to determine at least one measurement gap identification and at least one offset for the new radio frequency layers and a channel state information reference signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods of increasing paging opportunities when the unlicensed band is used are described. The gNB sends an RRC message that indicates multiple monitoring occasions in a paging occasion of a paging frame. The UE monitors a monitoring occasion of a PO to determine whether a PDCCH with a P-RNTI has been received in an unlicensed band. If such a PDCCH is received, the UE decodes PDSCH information in the PDCCH to determine whether the P-RNTI is a P-RNTI of the UE. If so, the UE avoids monitoring subsequent monitoring occasions of the PO. If the PDCCH does not contain a P-RNTI, the UE continues to monitor other monitoring occasions within the PO.

Abstract: An apparatus of user equipment (UE) includes processing circuitry coupled to memory, where to configure the UE for communication of data in a New Radio-Unlicensed (NR-U) spectrum, the processing circuitry is to decode RRC signaling from a base station. The RRC signaling includes configuration information to configure a listen-before-talk (LBT) timer and a scheduling request (SR) prohibit timer. An LBT procedure is performed while the LBT timer is activated. An SR is encoded for transmission to the base station, based on detecting an unoccupied transmission resource within the NR-U spectrum during the LBT procedure. The SR transmission activates the SR prohibit timer. An uplink grant from the base station is decoded in response to the SR, the uplink grant received while the SR prohibit timer is activated. A buffer status report (BSR) is encoded for transmission to the base station based on the uplink grant.
