Abstract:
A low-level logical partitioning function associates partitions, partitionable entities, and location codes. Partitionable entities are hardware components, not necessarily individually replaceable. The location code reflects the physical topology of the system packaging. It is preferably a string of concatenated elements, each element representing a device in a hierarchical level of devices which may contain other devices. A respective location code is likewise associated with each of multiple physical indicators. The location code of partitionable entities allocated to a partition is compared with the indicator's location code to determine whether a process executing within a partition can access the indicator. Preferably, each partition has a virtual indicator corresponding to a physical indicator, the state of the physical indicator being derived as a function of the states of multiple virtual indicators for multiple partitions.
Abstract:
A plasma-assisted waste gasification system including a sensing mechanism and process for converting waste stream reaction residues into a clean synthesis gas (syngas) is disclosed. The gasification system includes a first sensor located between a gas quench unit and a heat recovery unit to measure a first temperature and first flow rate of the synthesis gas exiting the gas quench unit; a second sensor to measure a second temperature and a second flow rate of a low temperature synthesis gas entering the gas quench unit; wherein the first sensor and the second sensor are connected to an inferential sensing mechanism. The inferential sensing mechanism is capable of estimating the temperature of the synthesis gas in the reactor, based on the measured first temperature and first flow rate, and the measured second temperature and second flow rate, using a mass-energy balance relationship that is based on the measurements of the two sensors. Another aspect of the invention relates to a control unit to control the temperature of the reactor to a required operating temperature range.
Abstract:
A management system for managing computer resources assigned by a hypervisor to one or more logical partitions and/or one or more appliance partitions in a multi-user computer system receives login information from a new user logging into the computer system through a service interface (e.g. a hardware management console) or a non-service interface, builds a conflict list, and sends the conflict list for presentation to the new user. The new user is notified of any users that are logged into any part of the computer system that could conflict with the new user's actions. Such users may be logged into the computer system through service and/or non-service interfaces. In one embodiment, the new user can choose to continue logging in irrespective of any conflicts shown. After choosing to continue, the new user is preferably requested to input an end-time. This end-time may be displayed, in turn, to all subsequent users that log into any part of the computer system that could cause conflict. The management system is preferably a component of the hypervisor.
Abstract:
A presentation state is received from the presenting application. The presentation state may represent a current state of the local presentation. A request for the presentation state is received from the viewing application. In response to receiving the request for the presentation state, the presentation state is provided to the viewing application. A request for presentation data synchronized to the presentation state is received from the viewing application. In response to receiving the request for presentation data synchronized to the presentation state, the presentation file is transformed into the presentation data synchronized to the presentation state. The presentation data synchronized to the presentation state is provided to the viewing application. The viewing application may be operative to read the presentation data and to display a remote presentation in response to reading the presentation data.

Abstract:
A method for estimating a temperature profile for individual combustion cans at an inlet of a gas turbine is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes determining an exhaust temperature profile of exhaust gas of the gas turbine, and inputting the exhaust temperature profile into a model-based estimator of turbine components through which turbine gas flows. The model-based estimator calculates an estimated inlet temperature profile at the gas turbine inlet, based upon the exhaust temperature profile and design parameters of the gas turbine, the estimate inlet temperature profile being indicative of the actual firing temperature of each of the individual combustion cans.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided for detecting movement of a vessel positioned on a cooktop surface. The apparatus includes a resonant circuit that has at least an inductive loop positioned proximate to the cooktop surface. A signal conditioner is connected to the resonant circuit for conditioning signals received from the resonant circuit. A processor is connected to the signal conditioner and compares the conditioned signals received from the signal conditioner to a reference signal whereby detecting movement of the vessel.
