A system for determining a cost effective and practical operation method for thermal source equipments includes a fundamental plan data storage unit, a fundamental plan generating unit for determining a fundamental operation plan of each equipment while minimizing an operation cost by linear programming, an operation knowledge storage unit for storing operation knowledge such as equipment performance characteristics and operation know-how, a fundamental plan evaluating unit for evaluating the fundamental plan, a modifying rule storage unit for storing modifying rules used for modifying the evaluated fundamental plan, and a fundamental plan modifying unit for modifying the fundamental plan in accordance with the modifying rules.

A heat storage apparatus includes a tank containing a heat storage medium and having an upper region and a lower region for holding the heat storage medium at respective temperatures above and below atmospheric temperature. To reduce heat losses and increase flexibility of use, an intermediate region having heat storage medium is maintained in the tank between the upper and lower regions at a temperature between the upper and lower temperatures. The desired temperature of the intermediate region is maintained by heating or cooling its heat storage medium, for example by use of an otherwise unused low-grade heat source.

A printing system includes a printing unit performing printing on a sheet, a conveyance mechanism, a control unit, and a selection unit causing a user to select any one of a plurality of methods whose maximum numbers of sheets existing in the conveyance mechanism at the same time are different from each other. The control unit controls the printing unit and the conveyance mechanism to perform double-side printing processing depending on any one of the methods. The control unit performs double-side printing processing in accordance with the method selected by the selection unit.

A correction unit executes a correcting function for measuring at least one of position and density of a test image in response to a correction instruction and correcting an operation setting of a printing unit based on the measurement result. Print data includes correction requiring data that is required to execute the correcting function by the correction unit before an image corresponding to the correction requiring data is printed. A determining unit is configured to determine whether or not at least one of two conditions is satisfied. One condition is such that a ratio of a second numerical value represented by the correction requiring data to a first numerical value represented by the print data is less than a first reference value. Another condition is such that the second numerical value is less than a second reference value. When the determining unit determines that the at least one of two conditions is satisfied, the control unit bypasses the measurement by the correction unit even if a receiving unit receives the correction instruction.

An image output apparatus, which outputs an image on a recording medium, and which is activated in an activation mode including a first activation mode and a second activation mode that consumes less power than the first activation mode, the image output apparatus including: a switching unit that selects one of the first activation mode and the second activation mode as the activation mode for activating the image output apparatus; and a storage unit that stores a total amount of power consumed on and after a reference time. The switching unit switches the activation mode from the first activation mode to the second activation mode when the amount of total power consumption stored in the storage unit is equal to or more than a first threshold value.
