摘要: To provide a biocompatible material with a high level of safety at a low cost. The biocompatible material has a polymer synthesized from monomers by an anionic polymerization, wherein the polymer has a ratio (Mw/Mn) of a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to a number-average molecular weight (Mn) in a range of 1.0 to 1.5, in which the weight-average molecular weight is 40,000 or more, and each of the monomers is represented by a following general formula (1): where R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R2 is a C1-C4 alkylene group; and R3 is a C1-C4 alkyl group.

摘要: A clinker cooler (3) comprises a plurality of grates (5) arranged in adjacent and overlapping relation to each other for conveying hot cement clinker (11) supplied from a kiln (1). The grate (5) is formed with an air hole (20) through which air from a fan (8) is jetted toward the cement clinker via a compartment (16) to cool the cement clinker. A distribution chamber (13) is equipped to a part of the grate corresponding to a part of cement clinker which is not cooled sufficiently, and the air from the fan (14) is jetted to such part of cement clinker which is not cooled sufficiently. The quantity of air jetted from the distribution chamber is adjusted by varying a degree of opening of a damper (15).

摘要: A submarine, optical-fiber cable having a central metal wire, a slotted rod surrounding the wires, an absorbent sheath surrounding the slotted rod, a plurality of strength members helically wound around the absorbent sheath, a metal jacket surrounding the strength members, and a plastic sheath surrounding the metal jacket. The slotted rod includes peripheral helical slots, and each of the slots may receive at least one optical fiber or at least one optical ribbon. The optical ribbon includes at least two optical fibers. Each of the optical fibers has a tensile strain ranging from about 0.015 to 0.3% along its axis. The absorbent sheath includes a layer surrounding and contacting the slotted rod for absorbing water. The cable is suitable for operating in deep sea beds for a long period of time, for laying and recovering cables, and for quick repair. Modulated strain distribution in the optical fibers suppresses stimulated Brillouin scattering therein.

摘要: A balloon for a blood vessel-dilating catheter is fabricated from a biaxially oriented film of an aromatic polyamide or an alloy thereof. The balloon has a calculated modulus of elasticity of from 70 to 190 kg/mm.sup.2. When the balloon is fabricated from an alloy of an aromatic polyamide, the alloy may contain up to 50% by weight of an aliphatic polyamide. The balloon of the invention is soft and flexible as well as dimensionally stable. Therefore, the balloon catheter has a high trackability, and may be inserted into the blood vessel without inducing any injury in the inner surface of the blood vessel. The balloon of the invention also has a good blood compatibility.

摘要: An electric motor includes a housing, a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a rotor shaft rotatably supported on the housing. The rotor includes a plurality of disk portions disposed on the rotor shaft coaxially therewith and spaced from each other axially of the rotor shaft. Each of the disk portions has a thickness gradually decreasing radially outwardly thereof. The stator includes a plurality of annular portions disposed on the housing coaxially with the rotor shaft and spaced from each other axially of the rotor shaft. Each of the annular portions has a thickness gradually decreasing radially inwardly thereof. The annular portions and the disk portions are loosely fitted with each other with a gap formed therebetween. Opposed side surfaces of the annular portion and disk portion are conical. Each of the annular portions has a coil disposed in each conical side surface thereof. Each of the disk portions has permanent magnets disposed at least in each conical side surface thereof.
