摘要: The present invention provides a thin-walled PTFE tube with appropriate elongation, sufficient strength, and good uniformity during stretching and a medical tube with excellent flexibility and dimensional accuracy. 摘要: In one aspect, a medical balloon assembly includes a tip sleeve secured to the distal end portion of a balloon catheter that includes the distal neck of a balloon. The tip sleeve has at least an inner layer and an outer layer. The inner layer is formed from a bondable material that is directly bondable to the exterior of the distal neck portion of the balloon. The tip sleeve is bonded directly to the distal neck of the balloon. The outer layer is formed from a lubricious polymer. Such a medical balloon assembly is made by receiving the distal neck inside the proximal end portion of the tip sleeve and directly bonding the distal neck of the balloon to the inner layer of the tip sleeve.

摘要: Inserts can be formed with elution characteristics to cause the inserts to elute an antimicrobial agent when subject to a fluid within a medical device. An insert can be formed with a desired geometry to allow the insert to be compression fit within a medical device to prevent the insert from moving or becoming dislodged once inserted into the medical device. The material may also be hygroscopic so that the insert swells when subject to a fluid thereby enhancing the compression fit of the device within the medical device. In some cases, the material can be reinforced using an internal structure. Inserts can be formed in many ways including by casting, thermoforming, or extrusion. In some cases, the inserts can be formed using a peel-away sleeve or material. The peel-away sleeves can be formed of a non-sticky material which facilitates removal of the inserts once the inserts have cured.

The medical devices may include a functionalized polymer such as maleic anhydride functionalized polymer. The burst strength and/or the hoop strength of the medical devices including the functionalized polymer may be greater than the burst strength and/or the hoop strength of control medical devices. However, the durometer of the medical devices may be substantially equal to the durometer of the control medical devices. Methods of manufacturing medical devices including a functionalized polymer are also provided.

摘要: Invasive medical devices including a substantially non-eluting antimicrobial treatment. One or more external and/or internal surfaces of the medical device include a substantially non-eluting copper-coated surface that assists in preventing microbial colonization of the coated surface. This in turn reduces the incidence of infection to the patient originating from the medical device. In one embodiment, a catheter assembly is disclosed and comprises an elongate catheter tube that defines at least one lumen, at least one extension leg including a luer connector, and a bifurcation hub including at least one fluid passageway that provides fluid communication between the extension leg and the lumen. A substantially non-eluting copper coating is disposed on a surface of at least one of the lumen, the extension leg, the luer connector, and the fluid passageway. The coating is applied via an electroless deposition process. A water-shed coating is disposed on the copper coating.
