Abstract: Seamless multipoint label distribution protocol (mLDP) transport over a bit index explicit replication (BIER) core may be provided. First, it may be determined that a first plurality of network devices comprise BIER edge routers. Then, in response to determining that the first plurality of network devices comprise BIER edge routers, a Targeted Label Distribution Protocol (T-LDP) session may be created between a first one of the first plurality of network devices and a second one of the first plurality of network devices. Next, an address of a peer device connected to the second one of the first plurality of network devices may be advertised by the second one of the first plurality of network devices over the T-LDP session.

Abstract: A method includes generating a visual representation of one or more multicast data trees over a service provider network, each multicast data tree exchanging data between two or more of a plurality of nodes of an entity operating over the service provider network; determining a respective network bandwidth usage over each of the one or more multicast data trees and a network bandwidth waste based on current bandwidth usage of existing data tunnels of one or more multicast data trees and replication distances associated with the plurality of nodes; modifying the one or more multicast data trees based on at least the respective network bandwidth usage over each of the one or more multicast data trees to yield a modification; generating a traffic routing policy to implement the modification; and transmitting a notification to a subset of the plurality of nodes affected by the traffic routing policy.

Abstract: Techniques for generating and utilizing overlay-based Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) packets to detect issues with an underlay network. The techniques may include receiving, from a BGP peer device via a control plane path, an OAM probe indicating a forwarding path to be used for sending the traffic to a destination associated with a prefix. The techniques may also include determining, based at least in part on the OAM probe, that a next-hop device is incapable of being utilized to forward the traffic to the destination, the next-hop device determined based on an origination of the prefix. The techniques may further include performing a policy-based action based at least in part on determining that the next-hop device is incapable of being utilized to forward the traffic to the destination.

Abstract: A system and associated methods provide solutions for reducing a volume of traffic through a multicast network attributed to repeated maintenance messages, which are required in order to maintain a multicast connection. The system configures provider edge devices to generate and send maintenance messages on behalf of members of a multicast group to establish and maintain the multicast connection and provides options for determining unknown locations of sources and/or subscribers, thereby reducing the overall volume of traffic transmitted over the multicast network.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for tracing multicast paths in hybrid networks. A method for tracing multicast paths in hybrid networks includes intercepting, by an edge device, a first multicast trace request transmitted by a first network device that a source device is connected to for tracing a route between the source device to a receiver device, wherein the first network device receives a message from a multicast tracing client to trace a multicast path from the receiver device to the source device; generating a second multicast trace request based on the format for the core network using information from the first multicast trace request; and transmitting the second multicast trace request from an edge network device to the receiver device using the core network, the second multicast trace request including network information related to network performance between the first network device and the edge network device

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method herein comprises: determining a set of flows to be monitored within a computer network; determining, by the device, a set of nodes within the computer network through which the set of flows traverse; determining monitoring capabilities for the set of nodes; generating an assignment for each particular node of the set of nodes to monitor a subset of one or more flows of the set of flows based on the monitoring capabilities of each particular node, wherein the assignment for each particular node of the set of nodes ensures that each flow of the set of flows is monitored by at least one or more nodes of the set of nodes; and instructing the set of nodes to monitor the set of flows according to the assignment for each particular node of the set of nodes.

Abstract: A system and method for handling multicast traffic in Ethernet Virtual Private Network multi-homed networks includes receiving a first route table for a first route, determining that the first route table is associated with another peer device in the multi-home network, generating a second route table for a second route, determining a route to transmit data and the determined route is the first route or the second route based on the first preference value and the second preference value, and transmitting the data using the determined route.

Abstract: A router node may be configured for communication of multicast traffic in a network fabric which may include a plurality of spine nodes interconnected to a plurality of leaf nodes. The router node may be configured as one of the leaf nodes and serve as a first hop router for multicast traffic. At the router node, a message for flooding the network fabric may be sent based on an indication of communication of multicast traffic for a multicast group from a source device. The message may include at least one spine node identifier of at least one preferred spine node joined to the multicast group at the router node. The message may be for indicating, to at least one of the leaf nodes, to prioritize joining to the multicast group at the at least one preferred spine node according to at least one spine node identifier.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, by a first router, data from a network component. The method also includes determining, by the first router, a first link bandwidth capacity between the first router and a host device and determining, by the first router, a first score for the first router based on the first link bandwidth capacity. The method also includes determining, by the first router, a second link bandwidth capacity between a second router and the host device and determining, by the first router, a second score for the second router based on the second link bandwidth capacity. The method further includes comparing, by the first router, at least the first score and the second score to determine a highest score and assigning, by the first router, an edge router associated with the highest score to communicate the data to the host device.
