Abstract: A communication system is provided. The communication system includes at least one radio point, each configured to exchange radio frequency (RF) signals with a user equipment (UE) at a site. The communication system also includes a controller communicatively coupled to the at least one radio point. The controller is configured to determine a transmit power control (TPC) command for the UE based on a signal to interference plus noise (SINK) for the UE. The controller is also configured to determine a count (N) of consecutive uplink transmissions, from the UE, meeting at least one criteria. The controller is also configured to determine a modified TPC command for the UE based on the count (N) and the TPC command.

Abstract: One embodiment is directed to a system that implements a downlink transmission mode that precodes sequences of symbols using a precoder matrix selected from a codebook. Linear transformations are performed on the sequences of precoded symbols using a distribution matrix. The distribution matrix is configured so that each of a plurality of precoder matrices provides perfect steering of transmit power to a corresponding one of a plurality of disjoint subsets of the antenna ports used for the downlink transmission mode. Also, the distribution matrix can be configured so that at least one precoder matrix provides peak power at all of the antenna ports used for the downlink transmission mode.

Abstract: A base station for selecting a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) and a total block size (TBS) for a UE is provided. The base station includes a processor and memory storing instructions. The instructions are executable to map a nominal MCS to a TBS index and determine a nominal TBS per resource block value based on the TBS index. The instructions are also executable to determine a target TBS based on the nominal TBS per resource block value and a number of resource blocks allocated to the UE. The instructions are also executable to determine a customized TBS, from a plurality of predefined TBSs, that is closest to the target TBS. The instructions are also executable to map the customized TBS to a customized MCS. The instructions are also executable to use the customized TBS and the customized MCS to transmit to the UE during a downlink transmission time interval.

Abstract: Embodiment are directed to systems and methods for use with a central radio access network (C-RAN) comprising a plurality of controllers and a plurality of radio points. Abstract: One embodiment is directed to determining a composite precoder for transmitting to a UE using a group of one or more of the radio units by doing the following: for each of a plurality of subsets of the radio units, transmitting separate reference signals from the different antennas of only the radio units included in that subset; receiving subset-specific preferred precoder index reports from the UE for at least each individual radio unit included in the group of one or more of the radio units; determining the composite precoder for the UE using the subset-specific preferred precoder index reports from the UE for at least the one or more radio units included in the group; and using the composite precoder for transmitting to the UE using the one or more radio units included in the group. In some embodiments, each of the subsets includes less than all of the radio units.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the following is determined for each UE served by a radio access network: a first set of remote units from which to wirelessly transmit user data to that UE and a second set of remote units that are not used to wirelessly transmit user data to any other UE while user data is being wirelessly transmitted to that UE. The second set for each UE includes the first set of remote units for that UE. Downlink fronthaul data for each UE is transmitted over the fronthaul to only the remote units included in the first set for that UE. The first set of remote units for each UE is used to wirelessly transmit user data to that UE, where no remote unit included in the second set for that UE is used to wirelessly transmit user data while wirelessly transmitting to that UE.
