    摘要: A system and method is provided for heating fluid to be pumped by an electrical submersible pumping system. Heat for heating the fluid may be inductively generated by adjusting the power delivered to the motor of the pumping system. In one example, the power adjustment includes supplying the voltage applied to the pump motor to a value less than voltage applied during normal operations. While lowering the voltage the electrical frequency may be varied as well as the electrical waveform.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing an electrical cable provides an electrical cable suitable for use in heating wells. An elastomeric jacket is extruded over insulated conductors. A stainless steel plate is rolled around the jacket to form a cylindrical coiled tubing having a seam. The seam is welded, then the tubing is swaged down to a lesser diameter to cause the tubing to frictionally grip the jacket. A recess maybe formed in the jacket adjacent the seam to avoid heat damage from the welding process.

    摘要: An electrical line for a well pump has elastomeric supports clamped to the exterior of electrical cable for supporting the cable within coiled tubing. The cable supports have an elastomeric member that swells when contacted with a hydrocarbon liquid. Each expansion member is clamped to the cable exterior by retainers located at the ends. The expansion members are spaced apart longitudinally along the cable, and then the cable is inserted into the coiled tubing. Hydrocarbon liquid is pumped through the coiled tubing to cause the expansion members to swell into frictional engagement with the coiled tubing. The retainers direct the swelling laterally into tight contact with the coiled tubing.

    摘要: An electrical cable for use in submersible well pumps in oil and gas well environments is provided having an electrical conductor core which is surrounded by an insulating layer of cross-linked polyethylene. A barrier layer surrounds the cross-linked polyethylene insulating layer. The barrier layer is impermeable to oil and other liquid hydrocarbons, but is permeable to low molecular gases. The barrier layer is preferably formed from a fluoropolymer and is surrounded by a polymeric protective layer. An adhesive layer attaches the barrier layer to the insulating layer.

    摘要: An electrical cable for a submersible well pump is provided which is resistant to attack by hydrogen sulfide and which is less susceptible to damage from expanding gases during decompression. The electrical cable has a central copper conductor core. The conductor core is surrounded by a layer of electrical insulation material of either thermosetting or thermoplastic material. Surrounding the insulation material is a polymeric, low permeable layer having a hydrogen sulfide permeability rate which is substantially lower than the insulation material. A metal tape layer, such as lead tape, surrounds the low permeable layer. One or more conductor cores together with the insulation, low permeable layer and metal tape layer can be embedded in an elastomeric jacket and provided with an outer metal armor to provide a single electrical cable.

    摘要: A self-supporting power cable which is especially useful in seismic testing. The cable includes an outer armor layer, a pair of tensile elements located inside the armor layer, a power conveying assembly located inside the armor layer and between the tensile elements, and filler material filling the otherwise empty spaces within the armor layer. The tensile elements are advantageously formed of several concentric layers of spirally-wrapped wire strands with at least the outer layer having less than a full contingent of strands. This improves the cable's strength-to-weight ratio while providing self support. To provide transverse force resistance against the cleats of a feeding device, the outer layer of the wire ropes contact the walls of the outer armor layer.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for producing an insulated connection between a pair of insulated electrical cables by means of curing uncured insulation wrapped around joined conductors in the cables. The apparatus comprises a multiple part mold assembly having a cylindrical cavity, mechanisms for heating and cooling the mold parts and an assembly for creating a radially inwardly directed, substantially constant pressure on the curing insulation while allowing radial expansion and contraction of the insulation and mold parts during heating and cooling. The pressure-creating assembly comprises a pair of rectilinear power devices and a pair of cables wrapped around the mold parts and tensioned by the power devices, this assembly applying a radially inwardly directed, equal and substantially constant force to the mold parts. Preferably, the mold assembly comprises three equal parts, each defining one-third of a cylindrical body and each having rollers on the outer surface for receiving the cables therein.
