Abstract: A method and apparatus for three-dimensional or multi-view video encoding and decoding using VSP (view synthesis prediction) with uniform sub-block partition are disclosed. For a current texture block comprising multiple partition blocks, the system derives a single partition decision and partitions each partition block of the current texture block into multiples sub-blocks according to the single partition decision. The VSP processing is then applied to each sub-block to derive the inter-view prediction using VSP. The single partition decision is derived using depth samples of the depth block in a reference view.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for depth lookup table (DLT) signaling in a three-dimensional and multi-view coding system are disclosed. According to the present invention, if the pictures contain only texture data, no DLT information is incorporated in the picture parameter set (PPS) corresponding to the pictures. On the other hand, if the pictures contain depth data, the DLT associated with the pictures is determined. If a previous DLT required for predicting the DLT exists, the DLT will be predicted based on the previous DLT. Syntax related to the DLT is included in the PPS. Furthermore, first bit-depth information related to first depth samples of the DLT is also included in the PPS and the first bit-depth information is consistent with second bit-depth information signaled in a sequence level data for second depth samples of a sequence containing the pictures.

Abstract: A method and apparatus using pseudo residues to predict current residues for three-dimensional or multi-view video coding are disclosed. The method first receives input data associated with a current block of a current picture in a current dependent view and determines an inter-view reference block in a first inter-view reference picture in a reference view according to a DV (disparity vector), where the current picture and the first inter-view reference picture correspond to same time instance. Pseudo residues are then determined and used for encoding or decoding of the current block, where the pseudo residues correspond to differences between a corresponding region in an inter-time reference picture in the current dependent view and a pseudo reference region in a pseudo reference picture in the reference view, and where the inter-time reference picture and the pseudo reference picture correspond to same time instance.

Abstract: A method of depth map coding for a three-dimensional video coding system incorporating extended reconstructed neighboring depth samples is disclosed. The depth block is partitioned into one or more segments. A prediction value for each segment is derived based on reconstructed neighboring depth samples. The reconstructed neighboring depth samples for at least one segment include at least one reconstructed sample from an extended top neighboring row or an extended left neighboring column. The extended top neighboring row includes at least one extended top-row reconstructed depth sample located adjacent to top side of a second depth block adjacent to right side of the current depth block. The extended left neighboring column includes at least one extended left-column reconstructed depth sample located adjacent to left side of a third depth block adjacent to bottom side of the current depth block.

Abstract: A method for inter-color residual prediction using an improved scaling parameter coding is disclosed. In one embodiment, a scaling parameter is used for inter-color residual prediction between a first color component and a second color component. The scaling parameter is coded using context-based coding having the same number of context models as the longest binary code for the absolute values of the scaling parameter. For example, when the first scaling parameter is selected from a group consisting of 8, 4, 2, 1, 0, −1, −2 −4 and −8, the absolute values of the scaling parameter can be represented by binary codes with the longest binary code having 4 bits. The context-based coding for the absolute scaling parameter also uses 4 context models. In a second embodiment, the scaling parameter is coded using binary codes by assigning a shorter binary code to a larger non-zero scaling parameter.

Abstract: A method of MVP (motion vector prediction) for video coding with adaptive motion vector resolution is disclosed. According to the present invention, the MVP coding is applied to the current MV or the current MV is stored depending on the current MV resolution, the reference MV resolution, or both the current MV resolution and the reference MV resolution. In one embodiment, when the current MV resolution corresponds to integer pixel resolution, MVP coding is then applied to the current MV using a modified temporal MV as a motion vector predictor for the current MV, where the modified temporal MV is generated by right-shifting the temporal MV. In another embodiment, when the current MV resolution corresponds to integer pixel resolution, the current MV is left-shifted before it is stored in a memory.

Abstract: A method for a three-dimensional encoding or decoding system incorporating restricted sub-PU level prediction is disclosed. In one embodiment, the sub-PU level prediction associated with inter-view motion prediction or view synthesis prediction is restricted to the uni-prediction. In another embodiment, the sub-PU partition associated with inter-view motion prediction or view synthesis prediction is disabled if the sub-PU partition would result in sub-PU size smaller than the minimum PU split size or the PU belongs to a restricted partition group. The minimum PU split size may correspond to 8×8. The restricted partition group may correspond to one or more asymmetric motion partition (AMP) modes.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for decoding of a video bitstream are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises: decoding a first coded block flag (cbf) of the color component indicating whether a current coding unit (CU) of the color component has at least one non-zero transform coefficient (830). According to the first cbf of the color component, the method further comprises decoding four second cbfs, each indicating whether one of four sub-blocks in the current CU of the color component has at least one non-zero transform coefficient (850). The residual quad-tree (RQT) of the current CU of the color component is determined based on the first cbf of the color component (870), or based on the first cbf and the second cbfs of the color component if the second cbfs exist (860). In another embodiment, the method comprises decoding a cbf associated with a transform unit (TU) and determining RQT of the TU based on the cbf, wherein said determining the RQT of the TU based on the cbf is the same for a luma component and a chroma component and the cbf is recovered from the video bitstream.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of three-dimensional/multi-view coding using aligned reference information are disclosed. The present system aligns the reference information associated with the reference view of the derived DV with the reference information associated with a selected reference view by modifying the selected reference view or by modifying the derived DV or a converted DV derived from depth block pointed by the derived DV. The DV can be derived using the Neighboring Block Disparity Vector (NBDV) process. When the reference view of the derived DV is different from the selected reference view, the system scales the derived DV or changes the converted DV to refer to the selected reference view. The system may also set the selected reference view to the reference view of the derived DV.
