A reflection plate and optical sheets are disposed adjacent to the light guide plate, so that entire thickness of the backlight assembly is reduced. The noise shielding member is disposed under the diffusing plate or interposed between optical sheets. The noise shielding member may be disposed under the LCD panel. The noise generated from the electric power signal applied to the lamp of the backlight assembly is shielded from the LCD panel. Furthermore, the noise shielding member and optical sheets contacts with the chassis of the LCD device through various ground members so as to be connected to earth potential and be electrically stabilized. Accordingly, display quality of the LCD device is improved.

The shielding member is filled into groove formed on the surface of the diffusing plate to have mesh shape. Accordingly, the electromagnetic waves may be shielded from the LCD panel. Furthermore, the shielding member makes electrical contact with the chassis of the LCD device through various ground members so as to be connected to an earth potential, thereby being stabilized electrically. Accordingly, display quality of the LCD device is improved. A conductive tape is used as the ground member, and the conductive tape is strongly fixed to the chassis of the LCD device by means of conductive fixing clip or conductive screw.

The diffusing layer is attached to the liquid crystal layer to diffuse light from the liquid crystal layer. A flat panel display device including a protecting sheet for protecting an upper surface is disclosed. The flat panel display device includes an image display part for displaying an image and a protecting part for protecting an outer surface thereof. The image display part displays the image by varying a voltage applied to electrodes oppositely formed on inner surfaces of a pair of transparent facing substrate respectively to thereby turn on or off each pixel. The protecting part is disposed on an outer surface of the substrate perceived by user's eye from an external shock or foreign mailers. Accordingly, the flat panel display device strongly resist the external shock, and the foreign matters are easily remove from the flat panel display device. The anti-glare treatment is carried out on the protecting sheet to thereby prevent dazzling of users due to the reflection of the light.

The lamps are connected in parallel and are turned on by the power voltage supplied from a lamp driving module. Sensors are disposed in the receiving container to face the lamps, and detect operation state of the lamps to output sensing signals. A voltage cut-off module is disposed outside of the receiving container, provides the lamp driving module with a voltage cut-off signal when at least one of the sensing signals has an amplitude smaller than a reference signal. The deterioration of the lamps may be prevented, and the life expectancy of lamps may be increased.

The reflective sheet has a cutout. A supporting structure extends through the cutout between the light guiding plate and the base to support the light guiding plate. A liquid crystal display device made with such backlight assembly is also presented.
