摘要: There is provided a stainless steel wire having both excellent corrosion resistance and an excellent fatigue strength while being fabricable with high productivity. A stainless steel wire consists of 0.01 to 0.25 mass % C, 0.01 to 0.25 mass % N, 0.4 to 4.0 mass % Mn, 16 to 25 mass % Cr, 8.0 to 14.0% Ni and the balance Fe with impurities, wherein the C+N content satisfies 0.15 mass % ≦C+N ≦0.35 mass %. The stainless steel wire contains 15 vol. % martensite phase induced by a drawing and the balance austenite phase and has a texture which causes the austenite phase to exhibit diffraction intensities satisfying both I(200)/I(111)≧2.0 and I(220)/I(111)≧3.0 by X-ray diffraction in the longitudinal direction of the steel wire.

摘要: A steel wire of pearlite structure containing 0.8-1.0 mass % of C and 0.8-1.5 mass % of Si is disclosed. In the cross section of the steel wire the difference in average hardness between a region up to 100 &mgr;m from the surface thereof and a deeper region is within 50 in micro-Vickers hardness. The steel wire is manufactured by working a wire rod having the abovementioned chemical composition through shaving, patenting and drawing processes, then strain-relief annealing the resultant wire, and thereafter subjecting the thus annealed to a shot peening process. The steel wire has a high heat resistance and a high fatigue strength, and can be produced through a drawing process without applying a quenching and tempering process.

摘要: A steel wire, and a method for producing the same, for use in the manufacture of a chassis or suspension automotive spring having a high sag resistance. In accordance with the invention, after a heat treatment is effected, strain is imposed to the steel wire so as to thereby improve the sag resistance. The strain may be imposed either during tempering or at room temperature following tempering.

摘要: A large diameter high strength hot rolled steel bar consisting of a low alloy steel having a carbon content of 0.3 to 0.9% and a metallurgical structure with a interlammelar spacing of 0.05 to 0.15 .mu.m, and having a diameter of at least 20 mm, a tensile strength of at least 120 kg/mm.sup.2 and a reduction of area of at least 20% is produced by a process comprising cooling a hot rolled steel bar at a constant rate, characterized by carrying out the cooling in such a controlled manner that the perlite transformation is started at a temperature of ranging from Tc to (Tc+40.degree. C.) wherein Tc is the critical temperature at which a cooling curve at a constant rate is tangent to the perlite transformation starting line of the continuous cooling transformation curve and the maximum temperature during the transformation is suppressed to at most (Tc+80.degree. C.).

摘要: A method for forming a spring which can reduce variations in the surface hardness and the thickness of the hardened layer when the spring is nitrided. Before nitriding the spring, the thickness of an oxide film formed on the surface of the spring is reduced to 1.5 .mu.m or less by electropolishing or any other suitable means so that the residual stress of the spring will be -5 kgf/mm.sup.2 to 5 kgf/mm.sup.2 near its surface. With this arrangement, it is possible to increase the surface hardness and the thickness of the nitrided layer of the spring obtained by nitriding.
