    摘要: A tunable radio frequency birdcage coil (30) is oriented vertically in a bore-type magnetic resonance apparatus. The birdcage coil (30) includes a pair of end rings (60, 62) disposed in parallel planes along a coil axis which is orthogonal to the main magnetic field. A plurality of rungs (64) electrically interconnect the end rings (60, 62) to form a generally cylindrical volume. The end rings (60, 62) and rungs (64) are mounted on a hinged (68) dielectric former (66). Conductive connectors (70) releasably fasten the end rings (60, 62) so that the coil (30) may be opened and closed to receive a portion of a subject to be examined. A conductive loop (80) is inductively coupled and positioned parallel to the end rings (60, 62). The conductive loop (80) is slidably adjustable along the coil axis for matching and tuning end-ring modes of the coil. The coil is oriented to provide a subject disposed therein with an open view for fMRI applications. Means for stimulating the visual senses (100) is mounted adjacent the examination region (14) to facilitate fMRI applications.

    摘要: An &agr;-glucosidase inhibitor is described. It is comprised of an extract of Touchi selected from the group consisting of an extract of Touchi extracted with alcohol, an extract of Touchi extracted with a mixture of water and alcohol in a water to alcohol ratio of 1:5 to 5:1, and an extract of Touchi extracted with water at 100° C. to 140° C. The components in the extract which have a molecular weight of at least 3000 as determined by means of gel filtration or membrane filtration are at most 20% by weight and wherein the extract inhibits &agr;-glucosidase at least 90.4%.

    摘要: A battery protection circuit has an overcharge detection circuit that detects overcharge of a battery and a charge inhibition circuit that, when overcharge is detected, inhibits charging with a delay produced by a capacitance element. This charge inhibition circuit can detect a short circuit in the capacitance element that is used to produce a predetermined delay, and, when it detects a short circuit in the capacitance element, it inhibits charging without delay. Thus, since charging is inhibited even when the capacitance element is short-circuited, a power supply unit incorporating this battery protection circuit is safer to use.

    摘要: Apparatuses, methods, and other embodiments associated with determining organ viability are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes logic configured to apply nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) energy to a kidney positioned in a hypothermic pulsative perfusion (HPP) apparatus. The NMR energy is produced according to an MRS 31P specific pulse sequence. The HPP apparatus has an integrated RF coil. The HPP may also have an integrated magnet. The RF coil is positioned and oriented to facilitate optimizing 31P MRS of the kidney. The apparatus also includes logic configured to receive spectrum data from the kidney. The spectrum data is produced in response to applying the NMR energy to the kidney. The apparatus also includes logic configured to provide objective, quantitative kidney viability data (e.g., PME/Pi, ATP/ADP) from the spectrum data. More generally, MRI/MRS compatible HPP apparatuses are configured to interact with dedicated NMR spectroscopy apparatuses.

    摘要: In order to increase the signal to noise ratio, and thus increase the quality of images produced during pediatric MRI, a pediatric RF coil assembly includes a head coil and a flexible body coil in a single dedicated device shaped and sized for a child. The flexible body coil may be operable to at least partially surround and abut the body of the child located on the pediatric RF coil assembly, while the head coil may at least partially surround and abut the head of the child located on the pediatric RF coil assembly. In order to optimize workflow, the child may be positioned on the pediatric RF coil assembly in a first room and moved to a second room including an MRI system after the child is brought to sleep or sedated in the first room. The pediatric RF coil assembly and the child may be moved to the second room using a handle rotatably attached to the pediatric RF coil assembly, and may be positioned on a patient table of the MRI system when the imaging process is to begin.
