A method for producing perforated work pieces from glass, glass ceramics, or semiconductors in a stress-relieving manner is provided. The method includes heating the work piece up to the glass transition temperature and perforating the work piece using a high-voltage electric field of suitable frequency or pulse shape. Then, the perforated work piece is allowed to cool down from the transition temperature range to room temperature at a rate at which the mechanical stresses generated by the perforation process relax.

A lamp has an LED, a base, and a reflector. The base is rigidly connected to the LED and has a base contact surface. The reflector, which can be connected to the base, has a reflector contact surface, an entry opening, an exit opening, and a longitudinal direction (L) that runs from the exit opening to the entry opening. The reflector contact surface is arranged in the longitudinal direction (L) between the entry opening and the exit opening, and the base contact surface abuts the reflector contact surface. Thus, movement of the base and/or reflector towards each other is prevented when the reflector is connected to the base. The reflector is formed in such a way that a projection of the reflector contact surface in the longitudinal direction (L) of the reflector is free of undercuts.

A molded glass reflector member for a lamp unit employing a tungsten halogen lamp as the light source is disclosed having a recessed opening at its base end and which further provides an engagement surface for mounting said lamp unit. Specifically, said improved lamp unit includes a molded glass reflector member terminating at its base end in an elongated hollow cavity protruding from the rear side of said reflector member, said cavity having a recessed opening of smaller size at the rearmost end which also provides a recessed engagement surface for mounting said lamp, and a tungsten halogen lamp secured in said hollow cavity so that its light source is positioned at the focal point of said reflector member and the lamp inleads project through said recessed opening. In a preferred embodiment, said recessed opening is formed by spaced apart shoulders extending from the inner walls of the protruding hollow cavity.

A method for making perforations or forming depressions in a glass work piece is described. Pursuant to the method, a two piece housing for the work piece is provided. The housing when assembled has a cavity conforming in size and shape to the work piece. The lower housing piece has a continuous upper surface and the upper housing piece has a smooth lower surface and openings in the housing piece conforming in size and position to the perforations or depressions desired to be made in the work piece. The work piece is enclosed in the housing and then plugs are inserted in the openings in the upper housing piece. The plugs snugly fit the openings and extend above the upper surface of the upper housing piece. A weight is then disposed on the upper surface of the plugs. The weight may be a flat metal sheet and is of sufficient weight to cause the plugs to exert a pressure of at least about one half pound per square inch on the work piece. The resulting assembly is then subjected to a temperature intermediate the softening point and the working point of the work piece and the temperature is maintained until descent of the plugs into the work piece ceases. The assembly is then cooled to ambient temperature, the work piece is removed from the housing and then the plugs are removed from the work piece.

A method of manufacturing a sheet glass includes: a re-draw process forming a sheet glass by, heating and softening a glass preform manufactured by float method, and extending the glass preform to a desirable plate thickness. An extension direction in which the glass preform is extended by the re-draw process is 90 degrees with respect to a direction in which molten glass is fed in the float method.

A scoreless separation device and method are described herein for separating a glass sheet without needing to score the glass sheet. In one embodiment, the device shears a stationary glass sheet without needing to score the glass sheet. In another embodiment, the device shears a moving glass sheet to remove outer edges from the moving glass sheet without needing to score the moving glass sheet.

The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for forming glass article from sheet glass. More specifically the apparatus comprises a mold, a plunger being cooperative alignment with the mold, wherein the mold and the plunger form a cavity exhibiting the shaped of the glass article, an outer trimmer for separating the glass article from the surrounding excess sheet glass, and an inner trimmer for forming the aperture in the glass article, and the method involves forming the aperture during the hot-forming process, therefore eliminating a post-formation step.
