摘要: An optical interconnection apparatus which is very easy to handle and does not cause excessive bending and breakage of the optical fibers when connecting with other optical apparatus is provided. The optical interconnection apparatus includes a base sheet and plural optical fibers two-dimensionally routed on the base sheet via an adhesive layer. The optical fibers form a routing pattern having at least a straight part, a crossing part, a curved part or a fiber pitch changing part. The apparatus further includes another base sheet this is adhered on the said routed optical fibers. The two base sheets have a different sizes so that one of the base sheets does not exist in the vicinity of the edge of the other base sheet at which the optical fibers are outwardly extended.

摘要: An in-plane-switching liquid crystal display unit has a two-dimensional matrix of pixel regions each including a first auxiliary region and a second region. When no electric field is applied, liquid crystal molecules in the first and second regions are directed in respective orientations that lie at 90° with respect to each other. When a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules are rotated in the same direction while maintaining their orientations in the first and second regions at 90° with respect to each other. Alternatively, the liquid crystal molecules in the first and second regions are directed in the same orientation when no electric field is applied, and when a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules are rotated opposite directions while maintaining their orientations in symmetric relationship.

摘要: A printing system includes a host computer and a printer. The host computer includes a memory which store process steps that are executable by a processor, and a processor. The processor executes the process steps stored in the memory (1) to divide encoded image data in a page of encoded image data into blocks, each block having a size which is less than a storage capacity of a buffer on a printer, and (2) to transmit the blocks of encoded image data to the printer. The printer includes a memory which stores process steps that are executable by a processor, and a processor. The processor executes the process steps stored in the memory (1) to store a predetermined amount of encoded image data in a buffer, (2) to control a printer engine to print images based on the encoded image data stored in the buffer, and (3) to store additional encoded image data, including blocks of the encoded image data, in the buffer in place of the encoded image data for which images have been printed.

摘要: There is provided a liquid crystal display including (a) a backlight source having a dominant emission peak at 380-420 nm, (b) a first polarization layer for selecting a light directed in a predetermined direction among lights emitted from the backlight source, (c) a second polarization layer for receiving a light selected by the first polarization layer, (d) first and second transparent substrates, (e) first and second transparent electrodes, (f) a liquid crystal layer, and (g) a fluorescent material layer receiving lights from the backlight source and emitting a light therefrom. The second polarization layer is located intermediate between the first and second transparent substrates. The backlight source, the first polarization layer, the first transparent substrate, the first transparent electrode, the liquid crystal layer, the second transparent electrode, the second polarization layer, the fluorescent material layer, and the second transparent substrate are preferably deposited from bottom to top in this order. The above-mentioned liquid crystal display makes it possible to reduce the number of transparent substrates by one relative to a conventional liquid crystal display, which ensures higher brightness and no parallax.

摘要: When a host computer makes a printer print a document, the driver on the host computer sends character codes of characters that appear for the first time in that document and corresponding character images to the printer in advance, and registers them. After this process, the driver transmits, to the printer, characters in the document to be printed as character codes, and data other than characters as mapped image. The printer maps an image on a page memory, maps characters as images with reference to the registered character codes and character image, and superposes the mapped character images on the image mapped on the page buffer. The printer prints the image on paper. The printer can divide an image into bands, and can map the image in units of bands, in place of pages. With this arrangement, the memory capacity can be reduced, and bands having identical contents or blank bands can be processed as codes.

摘要: There is provided an in-plane switching type liquid crystal display including (a) first and second polarizing plates facing each other and spaced away from each other, (b) a liquid crystal layer situated between the first and second polarizing plates, orientation azimuth of the liquid crystal layer being caused to vary by an electric field parallel to a substrate, (c) a first compensation layer situated between the first and second polarizing plates, the first compensation layer having positive uniaxial, optical anisotropy, and having an optical axis extending perpendicularly to the substrate, the first compensation layer varying birefringence thereof to thereby compensate for fluctuation in birefringence of the liquid crystal layer, caused by variation of a viewing angle, and (d) a second compensation layer situated between the first and second polarizing plates, the second compensation layer having positive uniaxial, optical anisotropy, and having an optical axis extending in parallel with the substrate and perpendicularly to initial orientation of the liquid crystal layer. Since a variation in birefringence of the first compensation layer cancels a variation in birefringence of the liquid crystal layer, the in-plane switching type liquid crystal display provides qualified images with less color caused by a change in a viewing angle.

摘要: To provide a liquid crystal display device easily produced having no disclination which causes a light leak, an excellent visual angle and an excellent contrast ratio, a liquid crystal layer is interposed between two substrates, two or more of micro areas coexist with each other in the liquid crystal layer, and liquid crystal molecules in the micro areas build up from a center of each pixel. A potential of a second electrode disposed on an opening is made approximately identical with that of a counter electrode, and a potential of a peripheral electrode is higher than that of the counter electrode, thereby obtaining the liquid crystal display device in which the liquid crystal molecules build up from the center of each pixel. Thus, the liquid crystal display device easily produced having a wide visual angle and an excellent contrast ratio is obtained. In addition, a polymer organic compound is dispersed in the liquid crystal to fix a built up direction of the liquid crystal molecules.
