Abstract: Modular physiological sensors that are physically and/or electrically configured to share a measurement site for the comfort of the patient and/or to ensure proper operation of the sensors without interference from the other sensors. The modular aspect is realized by providing outer housing shapes that generally conform to other physiological sensors; mounting areas for attachment of one sensor to another sensor; providing release liners on the overlapping sensor attachment areas; and/or providing notches, tabs or other mechanical features that provide for the proper placement and interaction of the sensors.

Abstract: A wireless, patient-worn, physiological sensor configured to, among other things, help manage a patient that is at risk of forming one or more pressure ulcers is disclosed. According to an embodiment, the sensor includes a base having a top surface and a bottom surface. The sensor also includes a substrate layer including conductive tracks and connection pads, a top side, and a bottom side, where the bottom side of the substrate layer is disposed above the top side of the base. Mounted on the substrate layer are a processor, a data storage device, a wireless transceiver, an accelerometer, and a battery. In use, the sensor senses a patient's motion and wirelessly transmits information indicative of the sensed motion to, for example, a patient monitor. The patient monitor receives, stores, and processes the transmitted information.

Abstract: A regional oximetry sensor has a sensor head attachable to a patient skin surface so as to transmit optical radiation into the skin and receive that optical radiation after attenuation by blood flow within the skin. The sensor includes windows that press into the skin to maximize optical transmission. A stem extending from the sensor head transmits electrical signals between the sensor head and an attached cable. In a peel resistant configuration, the stem is terminated interior to the sensor head and away from a sensor head edge so as to define feet along either side of the stem distal the stem termination. The stem interior termination transforms a peel load on a sensor head adhesive to less challenging tension and shear loads on the sensor head adhesive.

Abstract: An ear sensor provides a sensor body having a base, legs extending from the base and an optical housing disposed at ends of the legs opposite the base. An optical assembly is disposed in the housing. The sensor body is flexed so as to position the housing over a concha site. The sensor body is unflexed so as to attach the housing to the concha site and position the optical assembly to illuminate the concha site. The optical assembly is configured to transmit optical radiation into concha site tissue and receive the optical radiation after attenuation by pulsatile blood flow within the tissue.

Abstract: A wearable device for a noninvasive measurement of a user's body temperature can include a housing, a first substrate coupled to the housing and having an opening, a second substrate coupled to the first substrate and configured to secure to skin of a user, a mounting frame enclosed by the housing and the first substrate, a circuit board secured by the mounting frame, a temperature sensor coupled to the circuit board and configured to determine a body temperature of the user, and a thermally conductive probe. The thermally conductive probe is secured by the mounting frame and positioned proximate to the first temperature sensor. The thermally conductive probe extends at least partially through the opening in the first substrate and transmits a thermal energy from a portion of the user's skin to the first temperature sensor.

Abstract: A regional oximetry sensor can have a sensor head configured to secure to skin of a user and a stem extending from the sensor head. The sensor head can include an emitter configured to transmit optical radiation into the skin and at least one detector configured to receive the optical radiation after attenuation by blood flow within the skin. The stem can be configured to transmit electrical signals from the sensor head to a cable. A plurality of notches can extend from a perimeter of the sensor head towards an interior thereof. The plurality of notches can form a plurality of independently flexible cutouts in the sensor head configured to allow for movement of at least a portion of the skin of the user underlying the sensor head when the regional oximetry sensor is in use.

The sensor pod has a dual sensor connector configured to physically attach and electrically connect one or two regional oximetry sensors. The pod housing has a first housing end and a second housing end. The dual sensor connector is disposed proximate the first housing end. The housing at least partially encloses the dual sensor connector. A monitor connector is disposed proximate a second housing end. An analog board is disposed within the pod housing and is in communications with the dual sensor connector. A digital board is disposed within the pod housing in communications with the monitor connector.
