Abstract:
A system for assembling a variety of structures is disclosed. The system comprises a number of relatively short members having integral terminator portions suitable for reusable mechanical connection to other said members, at least a plurality of said members preferably incorporating a bend in at least one terminator to permit the assembly of complex, dimensional structures without additional components.
Abstract:
This invention provides a process and apparatus for producing products of M-nitride materials wherein M=gallium (GaN), aluminum (AlN), indium (InN), germanium (GeN), zinc (ZnN) and ternary nitrides and alloys such as zinc germanium nitride or indium aluminum gallium nitride. This process and apparatus produce either free-standing single crystals, or deposit layers on a substrate by epitaxial growth or polycrystalline deposition. Also high purity M-nitride powders may be synthesized. The process uses an ammonium halide such as ammonium chloride, ammonium bromide or ammonium iodide and a metal to combine to form the M-nitride which deposits in a cooler region downstream from and/or immediately adjacent to the reaction area. High purity M-nitride can be nucleated from the vapor to form single crystals or deposited on a suitable substrate as a high density material. High purity M-nitride single crystals can be grown by the direct reaction of the halide with the M-metal in a range of sizes from a few micrometers to centimeters, depending on the growth conditions. The small sized crystals are recovered as high purity M-nitride powder while the larger crystals can be prepared as substrates for electronic devices or UV/blue/green emitting diodes and lasers. The deposited layers can be used as M-nitride substrates, or targets for pulsed laser deposition (PLD), or other systems requiring high density targets. The deposition process, and subsequent density of the resulting component, is controlled by the reaction medium and by adjusting the temperature of the ammonium halide in an area near but separate from the reaction zone. Thickness of deposition on the substrates by the same process involves placement of the substrates in a suitable area in the reaction chamber and may be further controlled by the use of nitrogen, nitrogen-hydrogen mixtures or other suitable controlling gas to facilitate uniform distribution of the layer.
Abstract:
An improved dimming apparatus adapted for use in distribution dimming systems, in which dimmer enclosures each containing at least one semiconductor power controlling means are located in a plurality of spaced apart locations, each such enclosure located in proximity to at least one of its associated lamp loads. The disclosed dimming apparatus achieves unique advantages in the application through the use of a semiconductor power controlling means capable of modulating the instantaneous amplitude of the voltage or current supplied to the lamp load under the active control of its control input, a signal being applied to the control input of the power controlling means such that an output waveform is supplied to the lamp load in which at least one transition between a substantially off condition and a substantially on condition occurs during substantially each discrete half-cycle of the AC source and the duration of the transition is increased to suppress electro-magnetic interference.
Abstract:
The application discloses an improved system for the control of a plurality of light projectors each generating a beam suitable for entertainment lighting and each provided with means to vary a plurality of parameters of the beam and with means to conform capable of cooperating to produce a desired adjustment of the beam when provided with a corresponding desired parameter value. The improved system disclosed employs a plurality of local control systems, each with its own local short-term memory, and means are provided for entering desired parameter values, and for storing said values for each of a plurality of desired lighting effects in the short-term memory of the local control system, such that they are each associated with at least one second value which identifies the desired lighting effect. Each of the local control systems has at least one input, and will output a stored parameter value to the means to conform when the second value with which that stored parameter value is associated is provided at said input. A means for selecting, which is capable of producing a plurality of such second values identifying a desired lighting effect to be reproduced, is coupled to said inputs of a plurality of local control systems, preferably by means of a serial data link. Preferably one such local control system is provided for each controlled fixture or device.
Abstract:
An endwise joining of truss sections is disclosed. A section end is provided with at least two fittings, connecting with suitable fittings on another truss section end, locked together by inserting a pin through suitable openings in both fittings. Savings in time and labor are achieved by using the same pin for both fittings, the diameter of the openings in the fittings differing.
Abstract:
A cable assembly suitable for distributing both power and low voltage control signals to a plurality of discrete devices is disclosed. Power and control signal input plugs are attached by cable to a housing. A first set of power and control signal output connectors is attached by flexible cable to the same housing. A second set of power and control signal output connectors is attached to the housing. Corresponding contacts of all three power connectors and of all three control signal connectors having the same function are made electrically common, such that power and control signals applied to the plugs are available at both output connectors. The structure reduces the number of components and connections required to share power and data relative to prior art methods.
Abstract:
Units for distributing three-phase power to a plurality of chain motors are provided, as are used to raise and suspend production elements such as lighting, sound, video, and scenery. Remote switching and phase reversal of such power are also provided. In the prior art, such switching has been performed by large, heavy contactors inserted between the single power input and its distribution to plural outputs for motors, making the unit difficult to handle and ship. Provided herein are power switching and phase reversal performed by a plurality of parallel such means, reducing the current requirements for each, and thereby the size, weight, and cost of the whole. In some embodiments, the single power input is replaced by a by a cable delivering a plurality of two-phase circuits to the unit which derives the three-phase circuits necessary for chain motors therefrom.
Abstract:
Improvements are disclosed in the ordering, preparation, billing, and delivery of food and beverages in contexts including retail establishments. The customer order can be developed at the same or another location, via an application on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, on or offline. Various factors that allow predicting the details of a customer's probable order simplify the process. Automatic allow for polling other parties who might have their own interest in similar products, and the aggregation of such interest in a common order. Orders are transferred to systems in the establishment that streamline ordering, billing, preparation, and customer pickup of completed items.
Abstract:
A truss structure is suitable for supporting lighting fixtures or other loads both in use and in transport. The truss has at least four elongated chords defining between said chords a first volume generally rectangular in cross-section. In transport, the truss is supported substantially above a surface by castered carriages bearing upon that surface, the carriages connected to said truss and in a first position producing an additional volume between said first volume and said surface. The carriages are attached to the truss so as to permit their rotation between said first position and at least a second position suitable for use while remaining connected to said truss.
Abstract:
A truss structure is suitable for supporting lighting fixtures is provided which employs wheeled leg carriages to support such trusses during transport. Each leg carriage has two legs, one extending vertically from each end of an elongated crossmember. A caster is attached proximate to the bottom of each leg. The top of each leg can be inserted in a tube fixed in a corner of the truss, elevating the truss so as to produce a volume below the truss structure into which lighting fixtures and other loads can safely project during transport. The ground clearance produced is determined by the amount that the leg is inserted in the tube and an improvement allows the retention of a mechanical stop in the tube that determines the amount of insertion allowed. Stiffeners used to brace two leg carriages, one to the other, are provided with features that allow their use in forming a cart for storing leg carriages not in use.
