    摘要: A head beam is retained at a front portion of the pivoting arm so as to be rotatable, and is continuously urged by an urging member in the counterclockwise direction. The pivoting arm has a directing rod rotating around a supporting shaft. A slidable projection of the directing rod is slidably in contact with a beam rod, and a fixed supporting point is also slidably in contact with the directing rod. Accordingly, when the pivoting arm rotates, the operational reference line of the magnetic head is oriented along the tangential direction. Due to continuous urging force by the urging member, the direction of the magnetic head is continuously stabilized.

A method of manufacturing the magnetic head includes forming a first insulating layer around the lower core layer; simultaneously forming a coil layer by plating the lower core layer with a coil insulating underlayer interposed between the lower coil layer and a coil lead layer connected to the coil layer on the first insulating layer; forming a coil insulating layer of an inorganic material on the coil layer and the coil lead layer; and, simultaneously forming a first plating underlayer for forming an upper core layer by plating, a second plating underlayer on the first coil lead layer exposed through the plating-forming opening, and a current-carrying lead layer.

The upper core layer is made of an FeNiX (X being an element of one of rhenium Re and molybdenum Mo). A concentration difference of the upper core layer between a concentration of iron by weight percent and a concentration of the element X by weight percent is set to be larger at a leading edge of the upper core layer than at a position of the upper core layer more backward than the leading edge. In this arrangement, the magnetic head is provided with improved overwrite characteristics and accommodates the use of high-frequency recording signals.

    摘要: A perpendicular magnetic recording head includes a main pole layer and a return path layer that are exposed from a medium-facing surface of the recording head facing a recording medium and that face each other with a predetermined gap therebetween at the medium-facing surface. A coil layer applies a recording magnetic field to the main pole layer and the return path layer. The return path layer includes a gap adjusting layer and a main layer stacked in that order from a side facing the main pole layer. The gap adjusting layer is positioned so as to face the main pole layer and the recording medium, and is made of a magnetic material having a resistivity lower than resistivities of the main layer and the main pole layer.
