摘要:
A system and a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element through a reduced number of steps are provided, in which a liquid crystal panel is turned over, by means of a panel turning mechanism, about an axis not parallel to any of the long and short sides of the liquid crystal panel so that the positional relationship between the long and short sides of the liquid crystal panel can be reversed, after one of sheet pieces of optical functional films is bonded to the liquid crystal panel and before another of the sheet pieces is bonded thereto, which can achieve the same effect by a single operation as in the case where turning over the liquid crystal panel and rotating it are performed independently.

The present invention provides a method and apparatus designed to, during continuous manufacture of liquid crystal display panels, feed only a normal sheet to a lamination position for lamination to a rectangular panel and continuously laminate them together while positionally aligning them with each other. In the present invention, plural devices making up the entire apparatus are cooperatively associated with each other to make it possible that, among plural polarizing film sheets comprising a defect-free normal sheet and a defect-containing defective sheet each formed on a carrier film comprised in a strip-shaped film laminate. The normal sheet is reliably peeled from the carrier film by cooperatively associating feeding of the strip-shaped film laminate with a normal-sheet peeling device, and the defective sheet is reliably taken up while being attached to the carrier film, by cooperatively associating the feeding of the strip-shaped film laminate with a defective-sheet path changing device.

A system and a method for continuously manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, which can suppress the occurrence of stripe defects, are provided, and the system includes carrier film feeding means; peeling means for peeling off a sheet piece of a polarizing film and a pressure-sensitive adhesive from a carrier film; take-up means for taking up the carrier film; bonding means for bonding the sheet piece to a liquid crystal panel with the pressure-sensitive adhesive interposed therebetween to form a liquid crystal display device; and speed control means for controlling the take-up means and the bonding means so that the carrier film can be folded back while it is allowed to protrude from the front end of the peeling means toward the bonding means at least at a peeling-off end time when peeling off the sheet piece from the carrier film is completed.

An object of the invention is to provide a method and a system for manufacturing a liquid crystal panel, which allow more successful bonding of an optical film to a liquid crystal cell. A pressing force Fa per unit area applied when the optical film is pressed by the first roller and a pressing force Fb per unit area applied when the liquid crystal cell is pressed by the second roller satisfy the relation Fa>Fb. On the first roller side, the feed may fail to be stabilized due to the influence of tension fluctuations or vibration acting on the first optical film, so that air bubbles may occur. When the second roller side, where such an influence does not occur, contributes more to the feed of the liquid crystal cell, the liquid crystal cell can be successfully fed in the process of bonding the optical film thereto.

A method for manufacturing a treated resin film from a long resin film, the method including at least treatment steps each including treating the long resin film by bringing the long resin film into contact with a treatment liquid in a treatment tank, while feeding the long resin film, wherein at least one of the treatment steps is a one-side contact step including bringing a lower surface of the resin film into contact with a surface of the treatment liquid in the treatment tank that is filled with the treatment liquid, and nip rolls are placed downstream of at least one one-side treatment tank for the one-side treatment step. The method is capable of satisfying the properties required of the treated film and also capable of reducing the occurrence of scratches, dents, and other defects.

A set of optical film rolls for use in a process including supplying films and bonding the films, in directions relatively perpendicular to one another, to an optical cell, wherein a direction in which each film is bonded to the optical cell is equal to a direction in which each film is supplied, and the films are laminated to one side of the optical cell, the set of optical film rolls includes: a first optical film roll that is a roll of a first long multilayer optical film including a long polarizing film having an absorption axis in its longitudinal direction; and a second optical film roll that is a roll of a second long multilayer optical film including a long linearly polarized light separating film having a reflection axis in its transverse direction.

The method for continuously manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, includes: a peeling step of peeling off a sheet piece of a pressure-sensitive adhesive-containing polarizing film from a carrier film; a taking-up step of taking up the carrier film; a bonding step of bonding the sheet piece to a liquid crystal panel with the pressure-sensitive adhesive interposed therebetween; and a velocity control step of controlling V1 and V2 so that in a process of bonding the sheet piece to the liquid crystal panel, the relation V1=V2 can be satisfied during a period from a bonding start time when bonding the sheet piece to the liquid crystal panel is started to a time when the sheet piece is peeled off from the carrier film and that the relation V1

A polarizing plate with optical compensation layers that performs a wide viewing angle compensation with respect to a liquid crystal cell, allows circularly polarized light to be obtained over a wide range of light wavelengths, contributes to the reduction in thickness, prevents thermal irregularity from occurring, and can effectively prevent light leakage from occurring in a black display. The polarizing plate includes a polarizer, a first optical compensation layer, and a second optical compensation layer that are stacked together in this order. The first optical compensation layer is formed of a liquid crystal compound and has a relationship of nx>ny=nz and an in-plane retardation Re1 of 100 to 170 nm. The second optical compensation layer has a relationship of nx=ny>nz and a thickness direction retardation Rth2 of 30 to 400 nm. The angle formed between the absorption axis of the polarizer and the slow axis of the first optical compensation layer is in the range of “plus” or “minus” 25 to 65 degrees.
