Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a coil assembly capable of producing a flexible FOV for use with an MRI system. The coil assembly includes a gradient coil disposed about an imaging axis and a plurality of higher order gradient coils, or shim coils, positioned about the primary gradient coil such that the plurality of higher gradient order coils have a radius greater than the radius of the primary gradient coil. A change in the FOV is realized by modulating the current in the higher order gradient coils or shim coils.
Abstract:
The invention relates to calculating an estimate representing noise and signal quality, and to a receiver of a radio system. The highest value of a correlation vector is compared either to the second highest value or to the mean value of the other values. If a specific spreading code is used in the reception of the signal, the comparison forms a ratio of the signal and disturbance, the ratio being applicable particularly to combining signals from the diversity branches of a diversity receiver, whereby the method makes it possible to combine the signals even prior to detection. If the reception employs a spreading code with which no signal received by the receiver has been transmitted, it is possible by comparing the correlation values to form a noise quality estimate, an estimate value higher of which meaning that the receiver is receiving a signal and not just noise.
Abstract:
Pigment based inks are provided. The inks include a non-polar carrier fluid; and a surface-functionalized pigment particle including a nitrogen-inked moiety to the surface of the pigment particle through a nitrogen link at one end of the nitrogen-linked moiety and a block copolymer having at least two blocks attached at another end, the pigment particle suspended in the non-polar carrier fluid. A combination of an electronic display and an electronic ink employing the pigment and a process for making the pigment-based inks are also provided.
Abstract:
Ink compositions and methods of using the same are disclosed. An example ink composition includes an inkjet vehicle, from about 0.1 wt % to about 10 wt % of colorants, from about 0.01 wt % to about 10 wt % of anti-kogation agents, and from about 0.01 wt % to about 10 wt % of dispersed resin beads.
Abstract:
Pigment-based inks with fluorinated material-surface modified pigments are provided. The inks include a non-polar carrier fluid, and pigment particles suspended in the non-polar carrier fluid. The pigment particles either have fluorinated acidic functional groups, which are charged through basic charge directors to give negatively charged pigment dispersions, or have fluorinated basic functional groups, which are charged thorough acidic charge directors to give positively charged pigment dispersions. A combination of an electronic display and an electronic ink is also provided, as is a method for modifying the pigment particles.

Abstract:
A pigment-based ink comprises: a non-polar carrier fluid; and pigment particles suspended in the non-polar carrier fluid. The pigment particles are coated with a metal oxide that is modified with at least one silane coupling agent to introduce functional groups, steric stabilizers or both. A combination of an electronic display and an electronic ink is provided, as is a method for modifying the pigment particles.
Abstract:
The invention features therapeutic compositions comprising agents useful for the treatment or prevention of pruritis, and methods useful for identifying such agents.
Abstract:
An ophthalmic lens suited for extended-wear periods of at least one day on the eye without a clinically significant amount of corneal swelling and without substantial wearer discomfort. The lens has a balance of oxygen permeability and ion or water permeability, with the ion or water permeability being sufficient to provide good on-eye movement, such that a good tear exchange occurs between the lens and the eye. A preferred lens is a copolymerization product of a oxyperm macromer and an ionoperm monomer. The invention encompasses extended wear contact lenses, which include a core having oxygen transmission and ion transmission pathways extending from the inner surface to the outer surface.
