    摘要: An autostereoscopic image output device includes an image panel having an array of image pixels defining an image, the image pixels being arranged in rows and columns. An array of parallel lenticular elements is positioned over the image panel, the lenticular elements having optical focal axes that are slanted at an angle (φ) to the image pixel columns. The image output device is operable in first and second modes, with the image panel and lenticular element array rotated by 90 degrees between the modes, thereby providing a landscape mode of operation and a portrait mode of operation, the slant angle φ in the landscape mode satisfies 1≧φ≧½.

    摘要: The invention relates to a luminaire that enables the use of more sparsely distributed light sources, having a uniform fixture surface brightness and good color mixing. The luminaire comprises first and second light guide layers (10, 11) optically coupled together by at least one optical coupler (12a, 12b), which allows the passage of light from the first (10) to the second light guide layer (11). The luminaire also comprises a plurality of light sources (16a, 16b), each of which being arranged such that light emitted by the light source (16a, 16b) is coupled into the first light guide layer (10) at an interface surface (17)arranged substantially perpendicularly to a longitudinal axis of the first light guide layer (10). The luminaire further comprises a scattering element (14) adapted to cause light to be emitted from an emitting surface of the second light guide layer (11). By providing two optically coupled light guide layers (10, 11), one for receiving light emitted by the light sources (16a, 16b) and the other for emission, greater opportunity for dispersion and color mixing of the light is provided.

This arrangement avoids the need for a switchable lens array to implement a switchable 2D/3D display.     摘要: A multi-view display device comprises a pixellated display panel and a backlight comprising an arrangement of light sources (30), wherein each light source, when turned on, illuminates an associated region of pixels of the display panel. A display controller is adapted to control the pixellated display panel and the arrangement of light sources such that a partial display output is provided comprising simultaneously a set of at least three 2D views with no repetition of individual 2D views. This arrangement provides an output with controlled illumination direction of the pixels so that view repetitions are avoided. The output can be a single cone of views, and the location from which the cone of views can be viewed depends on the relationship between the light sources of the backlight which are activated and the display panel.

    摘要: A switchable autostereoscopic display device comprises a display panel having an array of display pixels for producing a display, the display pixels being arranged in rows and columns, and a lens arrangement for directing the output from different pixels to different spatial positions to enable a stereoscopic image to be viewed, the lens arrangement being in a plane parallel to the display panel. The lens arrangement comprises an electrically switchable LC layer which defines a lens pattern or a lens replica pattern, wherein the LC alignment of the LC layer is electrically switchable such that the lens arrangement is switchable between a 2D mode and a 3D mode. In the 2D mode, the LC alignment is in a first direction substantially within the plane of the lens arrangement, and in the 3D mode the LC alignment is in a second, perpendicular direction also substantially within the plane of the lens arrangement. The light output of the display panel is polarized in the second direction. This arrangement enables a perpendicular relationship between the output of the display panel and the LC alignment direction to be maintained for two perpendicular viewing planes.

    摘要: An autostereoscopic display device comprising a view forming module in registration with an image forming means. The image forming means has an orthogonal array of display pixels spatially defined by an opaque matrix. The view forming module provides at least two optical functions, namely a view forming function and a brightness non-uniformity reducing function. The view forming function modifies the direction of outputs of the display pixels such that the outputs of groups of the display pixels are projected in respective different directions as a plurality of views. The view forming function is provided by an array of parallel lenticular lenses arranged across the view forming module and having a first pitch. The brightness non-uniformity reducing function spreads the outputs of the display pixels such that brightness non-uniformities caused by imaging of the opaque matrix are reduced. The brightness non-uniformity reducing function defines a second pitch across the view forming module less than the first pitch, and further defines an effective spreading angle in a plane perpendicular to axes of the view forming elements substantially equal to or less than the angle between adjacent views projected by the view forming function. The brightness non-uniformity reducing function is provided by an array of lenses or a diffuser. In the case of an array of lenses, these lenses may be integrated with the lenticular lenses providing the view forming function in the form of lenses having a polygonal cross section.
