摘要： A packaging machine includes means for withdrawing insert blanks from a hopper and for prebreaking the parts which are detachably held in the planes of the blank and for subsequently manipulating each blank into partially set-up condition and for moving the partially set-up blank downwardly and around the necks of a group of bottles in such manner as to fold end tabs foldably joined to the partition tabs into flat face contacting relationship with the associated partition tabs by engagement of the end tabs with the necks of the associated bottles. According to one feature of the disclosure, the bottles are fed into positions wherein they are arranged in groups into which the inserts are lowered and the groups are controlled by suitable spacer elements movably mounted on an endless feed element each of which includes an article engaging pusher projection for imparting movement to a group of preceding articles together with an article engaging restraining projection which moves into the path of articles and restrains the movement of a succeeding group so as to control and precisely determine the position of the group of articles in order to insure cooperative and synchronous cooperation with means for securing the insert into a group of articles in such manner that two plys of material constitute separating partition means between adjacent articles.

摘要： An article carrier for use in conjunction with fragile articles arranged in at least two rows of at least two articles each is provided with a partition insert structure arranged to afford double thickness separation between adjacent articles and includes a pair of vertically disposed main panels arranged in back to back disposition together with a horizontally disposed spacer panel foldably joined along its side edges of the bottom edges of the main panels by serpentine fold lines to establish pockets adjacent the articles for affording cushioning action. At least one partition strip may be interconnected with one of the main panels at one end thereof and to a partition panel at the other end thereof. A pair of inserts may be arranged within the enclosed structure in such manner that the partition panels of both inserts are disposed in flat face contacting relation to each other so as to obtain a double thickness separator between the rows of adjacent articles, double thickness between articles in each row also being provided by cross partition tabs doubled back on themselves.

摘要： Apparatus for interlocking a pair of panels which may constitute the end portions of a wrap around carton blank, one of the panels having an edge strip with at least one locking aperture therein and which is foldably joined to an edge of the associated panel, the other panel being formed integrally with the body portion of a locking tab and an anchoring tab being foldably joined to the body portion of the locking tab, the apparatus including an elongated locking beam having a longitudinal locking groove formed in the lower surface thereof, means for moving a carton and its end panels along the beam and with the panels adjacent the groove, a rotatable strip folder arranged to engage and fold the strip into the locking groove so as to move its aperture out of the plane of the associated panel, a rotatable tab folder arranged to engage and fold the anchoring tab out of the plane of the body portion of the locking element, an abutment disposed in the locking groove downstream from the strip folder and tab folder for engaging and folding the anchoring tab into an acute angle relative to the body portion of the locking element, a pair of guides disposed on opposite sides of the beam for moving the panels and adjacent portions of the carton toward each other thereby to cause the locking element to move into the locking aperture and to cause the anchoring tab to engage the locking edge of the locking aperture.

摘要： An economical mechanically strong bottle carrier of the wrap around type having top, bottom and side walls interconnected to form a tubular open ended structure is provided with bottle engaging and carrier reinforcing flaps which are associated with certain bottle heel receiving apertures at the carrier corners are arranged so as effectively to prevent dislodgment of the bottles from the open ended tubular structure and which in addition constiute significant reinforcement for the corners of the carrier so that the carrier formed of light weight paperboard is of sufficient mechanical strength whereby rupture of the carrier is prevented and secure retention of bottles is effected.
