    Abstract: Tools and methods are described to measure dimensions of wellbores. Downhole caliper tools include: a downhole collar; an uphole collar; and a caliper sensor assembly disposed between the downhole collar and the uphole collar. The caliper sensor assembly include: an annular sensor module defining a plurality of radially extending tracks; and a caliper including: a plurality of linear slide arms, each linear slide arm at least partially disposed in the annular sensor module in one of the plurality of radially extending tracks and radially moveable relative to the annular sensor module, each linear slide arm extending from a first end within the annular sensor module to a second end outside the annular sensor module, and a cover extending from the downhole collar to the uphole collar. The annular sensor module can measure the radial position of the plurality of linear slide arms relative to the annular sensor module.

    Abstract: Modified Drilling fluid compositions, lost circulation material compositions and methods for using drilling fluid compositions are provided with enhanced loss control properties where the modified drilling fluid may include a carrier fluid, one or more drilling fluid additives, and a lost circulation shape-adaptable material. The loss lost circulation shape-adaptable material may include a plurality of oval shaped composite particles, wherein the plurality of oval shaped composite particles comprise a first component, a second component, and a high temperature, high pressure (HTHP) binding adhesive. Methods to control lost circulation in a lost circulation zone in a wellbore may include introducing a modified drilling fluid into the wellbore such that the modified drilling fluid contacts the lost circulation zone.

    Abstract: A self-powered sensor array (SPSA) for sensing environmental parameters along a drillstring includes an outer collar having moveable member retainers with moveable members movably located in the moveable member retainers. An inner ring is rotatably supported within the outer collar with bearing elements on an outer surface of the inner ring positioned to displace the moveable members relative to the moveable member retainers in response to relative rotation between the inner ring and the outer collar. Shape memory material elements are arranged in a respective moveable member retainer. Distance sensors are configured to sense a gap responsive to a shape change of the respective shape memory material element and a displacement of the respective moveable member. Power generation components are configured such that, in response to the relative rotation, the bearing elements displace a particular moveable member into a particular moveable member retainer, generating an electric charge.

    Abstract: A casing for a drilling operation has a body portion having a length, a first end and a second end, an outer diameter, an inner diameter, and a central axis that is common to the outer diameter and the inner diameter, and an external thread formed on the outer diameter of the body portion, wherein the external thread starts at a first predetermined distance from the first end and ends at a second predetermined distance from the second end. The external thread includes a spiral groove or a helical thread formed on the outer diameter of the body portion. The casing includes a coating at least partially encapsulating the external thread, wherein the coating includes at least one material selected from the group consisting of polycrystalline diamond particles, diamond like carbon (DLC), tungsten carbide, boron nitride, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, and combinations thereof.

    Abstract: A rig site may include a rotary table within a rig floor above a wellbore. A fabric sheet rolled into two symmetrical rolls is disposed on the rig floor. A pre-cut center hole of the fabric sheet is coaxial with the rotary table. A casing string, to be lowered in the wellbore, includes a first casing joint at a bottom of the casing string is a modified float joint. The pre-cut center hole of the fabric sheet is attached to a sleeve of the modified float joint. Union units are provided above the rotary table. The union units close the fabric sheet around the casing string to form a fabric-nested casing string within the wellbore. A cement slurry is pumped down the casing string and into a space between the fabric sheet and the casing string to cement the fabric-nested casing string to the wellbore.

    Abstract: A method includes introducing a drill string including a bottom hole assembly into a wellbore, wherein the bottom hole assembly includes a mounted 3D printing sub-assembly. A wellbore is drilled with the bottom hole assembly, and at least a portion of a casing is printed with the 3D printing sub-assembly while drilling the wellbore. A related system includes a drill string having a length of drill pipe and a bottom hole assembly disposed at a distal end of the length of drill pipe. A 3D printing sub-assembly is mounted on the bottom hole assembly, wherein the printing sub-assembly includes a printer housing and a 3D printing head mounted at the printer housing. A control guides the 3D printing head to print at least a portion of a casing at a location radially away from the central longitudinal axis of the drill string.
