A toner of the present invention comprises at least a binder resin comprising as a main component a polyester resin, a wax, and a colorant, in which in case of measuring a wettability of the toner with respect to a mixed solvent of methanol and water in terms of an optical transimittance at an optical wavelength of 780 nm, a methanol concentration of the mixed solvent is in a range of 45 to 65% by volume when an optical transmittance is 80% and 10%, respectively; a melt index (MI) is of 0.1 to 10 g/10 min at a temperature of 125° C. and a load of 5 kg; the toner comparises a resin component insoluble to tetrahydrofuran (THF insoluble component) in an amount of 5 to 40% by mass based on a mass of the binder resin; and the toner comprises a THF soluble component having a main peak in a molecular weight region of 3,000 to 20,000, and has a proportion of a component having a molecular weight of 10,000 or less in the THF soluble component is 50% by mass or more, according to a chromatogram of the THF soluble component measured by gel permeation chromatography. According to the toner of the present invention, it is possible to control lowering of an image density after leaving under a high temperature and high humidity environment, and a decline in the image density due to a charge-rise phenomenon upon low rate printing. Further, the toner has excellent fixing property and high temperature offset characteristic, and occurring of the end-offset is controlled.

The polymer components are characterized by (a) containing substantially no THF (tetrahydrofuran)-insoluble content; (b) containing a THF-soluble content giving a GPC (gel permeation chromatography) chromatogram showing a main peak in a molecular weight region of 3.times.10.sup.3 -3.times.10.sup.4, and a sub-peak or shoulder in a molecular weight region of 1.times.10.sup.5 -3.times.10.sup.6, and (c) including a low-molecular weight polymer component having molecular weights of below 5.times.10.sup.4 on the GPC chromatogram and an acid value A.sub.VL, and a high-molecular weight polymer component having molecular weights of at least 5.times.10.sup.4 and an acid value A.sub.VH satisfying A.sub.VL >A.sub.VH. A toner and a two-component developer for developing electrostatic images are disclosed. The toner comprises toner particles and the two-component developer comprises the toner and a carrier. The toner particle has a two-layer structure of a core layer and a surface layer, produced by suspension polymerization. The core layer and surface layer are mainly comprised of a resin having a low softening point and a resin having a high softening point, respectively. In the surface layer, a polyester resin having a specific acid value and a specific molecular weight is included to impart an appropriate water absorption to the toner. Due to the appropriate water absorption and superior fluidity, the toner can achieve a speedy rise of charge to give electrostatic charges in a stable quantity over a long period of time, and it can give a high image density and images with superior fine-line reproduction and highlight reproduction.

An electrophotographic toner showing a good fixability onto recording paper is constituted by at least a binder resin and a colorant, the binder resin comprising a resin component having a polar group, the binder resin having a molecular weight distribution according to gel permeation chromatography including a peak in a molecular weight region of 5.times.10.sup.3 -5.times.10.sup.4. The toner is used to develop an electrostatic image formed on a electrophotographic photosensitive member including at least an electroconductive support, a charge generation layer and a charge transport layer, and the resultant toner image is transferred onto a recording medium without difficulties such as occurrence of cracks on the photosensitive member or inferior transferability by using a photosensitive member having a surface layer containing a transition metal atom at 0.1-10 ppm. The surface of the photosensitive member may preferably show a fluorine atom/carbon atom (F/C) ratio or/and a silicon atom/carbon atom (Si/C) ratio, respectively, of 0.03-1.0 as measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

In a process for producing a toner containing toner particles by emulsion aggregation, each toner particle includes a binder resin of which a main component is a block polymer having a crystal structure, a colorant, and a release agent; the binder resin includes polyester as a main component; the rate of a portion capable of forming a crystal structure to the binder resin is 50 to 80 mass %; a peak temperature Tp of a maximum endothermic peak attributed to the binder resin is 50 to 80° C. in endothermic amount measurement of the toner with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC); and fused particles are heated at a heating temperature t (° C.) satisfying Tp′−15.0≦t≦Tp′−5.0 for at least 0.5 hr.
