Abstract:
Certain embodiments of the present disclosure allow a mobile station (MS) to proactively request neighbor base station information from a serving base station, for example, if a mobile neighbor advertisement (MOB_NBR-ADV) message is not received (or expected) in a predetermined time period.
Abstract:
Certain embodiments provide a method for managing updates to type-length-value (TLV) parameters used in a mobile station. The method generally includes generating a TLV bitmap having a plurality of bits to indicate whether or not updates exist to a corresponding plurality of TLV parameters, generating one or more client module registration bitmaps to indicate a subset of the TLV parameters utilized by a corresponding one or more client modules running on the mobile station, updating the TLV bitmap to indicate one or more TLV parameters modified by one or more MAC management messages, identifying one or more client modules that utilize the one or more TLV parameters modified by the one or more MAC management messages, as indicated by the client module registration bitmaps, and notifying the identified client modules of the modified TLV parameters.
Abstract:
A method of locating a mobile station that is turned off. The method includes turning off the mobile station while keeping a battery of the mobile station intact in the mobile station. The mobile station enters a soft power-off mode after the mobile station has been turned off if the battery of the mobile station has sufficient energy. The mobile station receives paging request messages from at least one base station and the mobile station measures RSSI levels for received paging request messages. The mobile station then selects a current base station for which the mobile station measures a strongest RSSI level. The mobile station handshakes with the current base station to enable the mobile station to camp on the current base station. Next, the mobile station reports its location to the current base station and the current base station informs authorities of the location of the mobile station.
Abstract:
27A central database is provided on an external device, such as a personal data assistant (PDA), that is used for local phone number translation. A communications link is provided between a mobile telephone and the central database to allow accessing and indexing of the central database. The mobile telephone obtains identification information from a base station upon which the mobile telephone is camped. The communications link is used to extract local phone number translation information from the central database by indexing with the identification information to obtain corresponding local phone number translation information. The mobile telephone then provides local phone number translation using the local phone number translation information.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for utilizing a multicast/broadcast connection identifier (CID) scheduling message in an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) or orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) frame in an effort to bypass at least a portion of the Media Access Control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) parsing of the frame are provided. By bypassing at least a portion of the MAC PDU parsing of the OFDM/OFDMA frame (which may be in accordance with one or more standards of the IEEE 802.16 family of standards), a particular user terminal need not spend a lot of overhead in the CID filtering process, determining which MAC PDUs are intended to be processed by the MAC of that particular user terminal. Furthermore, for certain embodiments, a user terminal may power down related circuitry during the terminal's bypassing time period(s) of the OFDM/OFDMA frame in an effort to save power.
Abstract:
Techniques, systems and methods for concurrent data and signaling for WiMAX handover are disclosed herein. The serving base station may receive a handover request message from a mobile station and transmit a parameter to the mobile station to indicate a time to suspend a first set of one or more service flows between the serving base station and the mobile station during a handover procedure and continue data exchange between the mobile station and the serving base station for a second set of one or more service flows during the handover procedure. The proposed techniques reduce the service suspension time during the handover procedure.
Abstract:
A method for transitioning across multiple radio access technologies is provided. The method comprises associating a first base station identification with a first radio access technology and associating a second base station identification with a second radio access technology. A co-layered relationship is then established between the first base station and first radio access technology and the second base station identification and second radio access technology and stored in a storage device, such as a memory, using the base station identification. The mobile device then searches for the co-layered relationship using the base station identification as a key and then retrieves the stored co-layer relationship. Once the mobile station has retrieved the stored co-layer relationship it utilizes the co-layered relationship to transition from the first radio access technology to the second radio access technology.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and devices are described for concurrently performing handoff-related measurements for neighbor cells using multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna resources. In one example, a mobile device is in communication with a serving cell. Handoff-related measurements of first wireless signals from a first neighbor cell are performed. The first wireless signals are received at first MIMO antenna resources of a device. Handoff-related measurements of second wireless signals from a second neighbor cell are performed, as well. The second wireless signals are received at second MIMO antenna resources concurrently with the first wireless signals received at the first MIMO antenna resources. The first handoff-related measurements and the second handoff-related measurements may be performed during a scan interval. A type of handoff-related measurement to perform may be determined based on a determined length of the scan interval.
Abstract:
In a multi-threaded processor mobile device, power consumption is reduced by matching a number of active processing resources with the data rate capability of a serving base station. The number of active resources may be adjusted to increase the amount of time the mobile device is in an all-waits period, where its processors are all idle at the same time. Increasing the all-waits time increases power savings. The mobile device may reduce the number of active resources to reduce power consumption or may increase the number of active resources temporarily in order to increase an all-waits period. The mobile device may also operate in a low power state by adjusting its active resources and operating at a reduced data rate, which is communicated to a base station.
Abstract:
Certain embodiments of the present disclosure present methods and apparatuses that enable a mobile station (MS) to selectively reject downlink (DL) data during idle mode. The MS may determine whether to reject the pending DL data based on information about the data. This information may be provided by a base station (BS) that is part of the access service network (ASN) that is retaining the DL data. The information provided by the BS may, for instance, include service flow information related to the pending DL data. In certain embodiments, the information may include one or more internet protocol (IP) packets that are part of the pending DL data.
