摘要: Methods of forming support layers for use in catheters using having a support layer included, and stents incorporating coatings of photosensitive polymerizable resins and stents including fibers coated with photosensitive polymerizable resins. A fiber is coated with a PPC resin and incorporated into a support structure for a catheter. Portions of the PPC are polymerized by exposure to light of a desired wavelength, causing increased rigidity and strength to the polymerized portions. As the PPC is polymerized, the fibers coated by the PPC resins become stronger and change the flexibility of devices incorporating such fibers. Additional embodiments include stents incorporating PPC coatings and methods of using such stents, including polymerizing a PPC coating after inserting a self-expanding or balloon-expandable stent.

摘要: According to an aspect of the present invention, implantable or insertable medical devices (also referred to as internal medical devices) are provided. These medical devices include at least one machined layer, at least a portion of which is disposed over at least one underlying region (e.g., a therapeutic agent containing region, a catalytic region, etc.). The at least one machined layer contains a plurality of excavated regions which promote the transport of molecular species across the machined layer. An advantage of the present invention is that medical devices are provided, in which the transport of species into the medical device, out of the medical device, or both are controlled, and may be customized, as desired.

摘要: Medical devices, for example, those that have balloons, and methods of making the devices are described. For example, in some embodiments, a medical device includes an elongated shaft, and an inflatable balloon carried by the shaft. The balloon includes a first recessed channel, a second recessed channel, a third recessed channel, and a fourth recessed channel, wherein the first recessed channel is spaced from the second recessed channel by a first distance, the third recessed channel is spaced from the fourth recessed channel by the first distance, and the second recessed channel is spaced from the third recessed channel by a second distance different than the first distance.

摘要: A closure device or system seals or closes an opening in a body cavity. The closure device is deployed proximate to an entry site to the body cavity. A needle or instrument is inserted through the closure to form an incision through the body wall to insert a treatment device or instrument. Following withdrawal of the treatment device or instrument, the closure device seals or closes the incision.

摘要: A temporary stent for supporting a region of a vessel in a body comprising a composite stent portion and an actuator portion and methods for the use and manufacture thereof. The composite stent portion is comprised of an elongate perfusable vessel supporting portion adapted to be configurable between a reduced size for placement in the vessel and removal therefrom and an expanded size for structurally supporting the vessel and perfusable end portions connected to and forming ends of the vessel supporting portion and adapted to allow fluid flow therethrough. The composite stent portion is comprised of a plurality of resilient metallic wires coated with a polymeric material to provide stability for both lifting and maintaining a vessel. A method is disclosed for deployment of the composite stent to maintain vessel patency during occurrence of an intimal flap, vasoconstriction or vasospasm.
