摘要: The described invention provides a method of functionally reprogramming adult cells to an immature cell type that expresses one or more embryonic biomarkers. The reprogramming is accomplished by contacting the adult cells with a platelet rich fraction comprising platelet-like cells from umbilical cord blood or peripheral blood, and expanding the immature cell type in vitro under culture conditions to generate an insulin-producing cell population that expresses human beta-cell specific transcription factors and is functionally equivalent to human pancreatic beta-cells. Without being limited by theory, platelet-like cells and their released mitochondria display immune tolerance-associated markers that may modulate the function and differentiation of immune cells. The described invention further provides a pharmaceutical composition comprising a cell product containing a therapeutic amount of an insulin-producing cell population derived from functionally reprogrammed adult cells, wherein the insulin-producing cell population expresses human beta-cell specific transcription factors and is functionally equivalent to human pancreatic beta-cells.

摘要: The present invention is related generally to embryonic-like stem cells isolated from human umbilical cord blood, designated herein as cord blood-stem cells (CB-SC's), which display the characteristics of embryonic stem cells and hematopoietic cells. These cells have the capability of proliferation and are able to differentiate to multiple types of cells. In addition, the CB-SC display low immunogenicity and immune regulation. These cells are, therefore, suitable for use in stem cell-based therapies for the treatment of diseases such as Parkinson's disease, diabetes, spinal cord damage, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease, stroke and birth defects, and for preventing, treating and/or reducing an autoimmune disease in a mammalian subject.

摘要: As a mobile device moves from one location area to another, the mobile device detects the different location identifiers broadcast by the wireless network(s) in those locations areas. The mobile device stores the location identifier for the last location area in which the mobile device was located. By comparing a received location identifier to the stored location identifier, the mobile device determines if the mobile device has entered a new location area. If so, the mobile device sends a location update request. In one embodiment, if the location update request is for a location area to which access by the mobile device is restricted, the network sends a communication to the mobile device that triggers the mobile device to update a location identifier stored at the mobile device to the location identifier for the restricted location area so that the mobile can update the network after entering/selecting a different location area.

摘要: A method is described for producing an amended realization of a geostatistical model of a hydrocarbon reservoir using the Karhunen-Loève (KL) expansion. The KL expansion may be used to produce amended realizations for history matching and is widely used. However, it is necessary in order to use the KL expansion to perform singular value decomposition of the covariance matrix of the model to provide eigenvectors and eigen values for use in the expansion. In a typical geostatistical model, the covariance matrix is too large for singular value decomposition to be performed. Prior solutions to this problem involved reducing the resolution of the model so as to reduce the size of the covariance matrix. In the method described, a plurality of random realizations are generated and an approximation of the covariance matrix is constructed from the realizations, the approximation matrix having smaller dimensions than the true covariance matrix.

摘要: The relevance of documents is automatically determined based upon a weighted tree. Terms considered to be relevant are assigned to the leaf nodes of a tree data structure. A location can also be specified in a leaf node, indicating where in a document the term must appear to be considered relevant. Internal nodes of the tree are assigned operators (e.g., add, maximum or minimum). The connections between nodes are assigned weights. A relevance value for a given document is calculated as a function of occurrence in the document of terms assigned to leaves, operators assigned to internal nodes, and weights assigned to the associated node connections. Weighted trees can be used to process search queries. Documents with high relevance scores calculated against the tree can be returned to a user as the results to a query.

摘要: Thumbnail image substitution is described. In embodiments, a navigation input is received that is effective to move from a first view of a media content page to a second view of the media content page. The second view includes a region of the media content page that is not included in the first view of the media content page. A thumbnail image is displayed in the region of the media content page that is not included in the first view and that will display the media content. The thumbnail image is replaced to display the media content in the region of the media content page that corresponds to the second view of the media content page.
