    摘要: To provide a light-emitting device which can emit bright light without increasing the projected area of a light-emitting element and be manufactured with high yield. A light-emitting device of one embodiment of the present invention includes a plurality of projections; a first electrode formed along the plurality of projections; a layer containing a light-emitting organic compound formed along the plurality of projections and over the first electrode; and a second electrode formed along the plurality of projections and over the layer containing a light-emitting organic compound. Further, the plurality of projections each have a bottom surface having a side in contact with a bottom surface of an adjacent projection; a plurality of side surfaces each having a certain angle greater than 0° and less than or equal to 80° with respect to the bottom surface; and a vertex having a first continuously curved surface.

    摘要: A reflective display device includes a switching layer, placed between substrates, for switching between a transmissive state for allowing transmission of incident light and a scattering state for scattering the incident light, and a retro-reflector for reflecting an incident ray from the liquid crystal layer so that an outgoing ray of the reflected light is parallel to the incident ray. A pitch of smallest unit structures of the retro-reflector is set to be larger than 0 mm and not more than 5 mm. The retro-reflector is preferably in a form of a corner cube array and has light absorbing surface portions at borders of the smallest unit structures. With this reflective display device, brightness of white state and contrast ratio can be improved.

    摘要: A reflective type liquid crystal display device in accordance with the present invention includes a reflector film having excellent polarization preservation properties and an anisotropic diffusing film for diffusing only the light polarized in a particular direction. The anisotropic diffusing film is composed of a complex of liquid crystal and a polymer and selectively diffuses incident light. If a liquid crystal layer composed of dichroic dye and liquid crystal is employed, it becomes possible to carry out high contrast display with the anisotropic diffusing film and the reflector film and to prevent reflections of nearby objects appearing on the screen. Similarly, if a liquid crystal layer composed of liquid crystal and a polymer and having a twist angle of orientation of the liquid crystal specified to be in a range of 40° to 50° between an insulating substrate and a reflector member is employed, and the reflector film possesses excellent polarization preservation properties, similarly to the above case a reflective type liquid crystal display device can be obtained which reflects no nearby objects on the screen and can carry out high contrast display.

    摘要: A liquid crystal element is equipped with at least one polarizer provided on a light entering side thereof, an insulating substrate on which transparent electrodes, a light reflecting member having a light reflecting surface on one side thereof, and a liquid crystal layer sealed between the insulating substrate and the reflecting member, in which liquid crystal molecules and liquid-crystalline polymers are both twist-aligned through a same angle. In the case of a dark display, incident light linearly polarized enters the liquid crystal layer, becoming circularly polarized light at the reflection surface, and after being reflected, when outgoing, the light becomes a linearly polarized light having a plane of polarization rotated through an angle of 90.degree. as compared with that of the incident light. On the other hand, in the case of a bright display, the incident light linearly polarized enters, and when outgoing, it has become diffused light, resulting from that only polarized light components identical to the incident light passed through the element. Thus, by applying a new LCD mode in which the absorption state and the diffusion state are controlled by application of a voltage, a reflection-type LCD device with high colorfulness and display performance, which does not cause a parallax, can be provided.
