A loading system for containers holding ammunition in an armored vehicle having a tubular weapon composed of a gun cradle and a barrel having a bore axis, the weapon being mounted in a top gun mount which is rotatable about an azimuth axis, which system includes a first transporting device for transporting a container from a magazine holding a plurality of containers and disposed in a rear section of the armored vehicle into a loading position behind the top gun mount. The system further includes a plurality of such containers, each composed of at least two cells, each cell accommodating a respective cartridge, and connecting elements for connecting the cells in a form and force locking manner for transport to the loading position. The first transporting device is composed of a combined depositing and conveying device which is fixed on the gun cradle and extends transversely to the bore axis of the gun barrel, the combined device including elements for transporting the cells of a container to an insertion position aligned with the bore axis. The system further includes a second transporting device composed of a basic body rotatable about the azimuth axis of the top gun mount independently of the rotation of the top gun mount about the azimuth axis, a gripping device for gripping a container in the rear section magazine of the armored vehicle, and at least four further members arranged one behind the other in a multiple joint arrangement connecting the gripping device to the basic body.

An ammunition-receiving device is employed to prevent recoil of the ammunition 4 and consequent damage to the powder body 4a. The ammunition-receiving device includes leaf springs 2 which are disposed in the feed opening 3 of the gun housing 1, with the free ends 2a of the leaf springs 2 projecting radially inwardly to thus constrict the inner width of the feed opening 3. The free ends 2a of leaf springs 2 press on the outer surface of powder body 4a of the caseless ammunition and inhibit its forward movement.

A mounting device is connected with the vehicle for mounting the mortar for movement between a traveling position in which the mortar is positioned to travel with the vehicle and a firing position in which the mortar is positioned to fire a projectile. The traveling position is delimited by the region provided in the side wall for receiving the mortar and the firing position is located on the ground in the vicinity of the vehicle.

A first safety slide is radially displaceably held in the housing for blocking an axial motion of the firing pin assembly towards the needle, and a second safety slide is radially displaceably held in the housing for blocking an axial motion of the firing pin assembly in a direction away from the needle. A detonator is held in the second safety slide such that in one position of the second safety slide it is out of axial alignment with the point and in another position thereof it is in axial alignment with the point for allowing contact between the point and the detonator.

To reduce the space required within the rotatable turret housing 24 of an armored vehicle for transferring cartridged ammunition 3 from a magazine 4 in the hull to a magazine 10 in the turret, the gun barrel 1, which is pivotal about a cradle axis 2, is used as a transporting means for the change of ammunition. To transport the cartridged ammunition 3 into the chamber 15 of the gun barrel, the ammunition 3 of the hull magazine 4 in the removal position 5 is arranged at an angle within vehicle hull 23 so that the ammunition 3 forms a straight line 7 with the bore axis 6 of the gun barrel 1, which has been raised by an elevation angle .alpha. with respect to the horizontal. To guide the cartridged ammunition 3 in the region of the recoil path s of the barrel 1, pivotal conduits or spacers 11, 12 are fastened to hull magazine 4 and to turret magazine 10. The gun barrel 1 serves as the transporting means, on the one hand, to replenish the cartridged ammunition 3 in the turret magazine 10 from the supply of ammunition in the hull magazine 4 and, on the other hand, to replenish the hull magazine 4 in the reverse direction of transport. For the longitudinal transport of the cartridged ammunition 3 into and out of chamber 15 of gun barrel 1, ramming devices 16, 17 are provided at turret magazine 10 and at hull magazine 4, respectively.

An external threaded portion is provided on the gun barrel and an inner threaded bore portion is provided on the muzzle member for mating meshing mounting. The respective frusto-conical portions of the gun barrel and muzzle member have a length l.sub.1 is larger than 1.5 d.sub.1 thereby making for a radial play-free joint. The muzzle member is constructed in the longitudinal region l.sub.1 of the inner frusto-conical portion in such a way that a firm screwed connection will cause an elastic expansion for receiving a safety locking mechanism in the form of at least four recesses disposed on the outer surface of the frusto-conical forward end of the gun barrel which, in coaction with a rod serve as a rotational locking means.
